don't worry, I'm not one of these independent retailer snobs. I like independent retailers but when I'm not in Sheffield I don't really have the choice; it's play.com, amazon.co.uk, or big high street retailers.

About the only retailer left, chain-wise is FYE and they suck. I went in to ask if they had the new Opeth and the guy had to ask me three times what I was looking for. There is one indie place that I love and they probably would have had it, but I couldn't get there right away, so I figured since I was in NYC, I'd hit up Virgin Megastore. It's quite obnoxious in there. They have a "DJ" blasting through speakers and playing nothing but 50 Cent, Britney and Justin Timberlake while you're shopping. I couldn't turn up my iPod loud enough to drown them out, as I didn't have my noise reduction headphones with me

I highly recommend everyone here download the new Dave Gahan solo album, Hourglass. It's very electronic and very good. I have had "Use You" stuck in my head for days now. Excellent driving song.

Check what.cd or The Pirate Bay for it. The b-side "Tomorrow" from the Kingdom single is also a gem.

you should certainly have all the Lenny up to and including I'm Your Man, though you are foolish if it's your first dip into his world, as the 80s stuff kinda buries the songwriting genius more than ever before.

Songs Of Leonard Cohen, Songs Of Love And Hate and Recent Songs are current favourites, but anything from Lenny is good.

I probably am foolish. I'm not going to debate that. This was my first dip. Actually I've been listening to him for awhile but never had an album by him and I thought hey I'm Your Man has tower of song and everybody knows so that's what made me purchase it really. The arrangements are a bit cheesy so I can see where you're coming from. Overall i wasn't disappointed though and it definitely requires more listens. Songs of Love and Hate was next on my list anyway.

Yea. Any of his first four albums (plus Recent Songs) are the most stripped back arrangements; for the most part just Lenny, some female backing vox and an acoustic. I'd say that all five are fairly flawless, but I would, as I'm a huge Leonard Cohen fanboy. I'd even recommend Live Songs, the first live album, as it has a few tracks otherwise unavailable, including the 13-minute singalong "Please Don't Pass Me By", which is amazing and full of wry ironies and wit.

Most definitely. There are several NIN touches throughout the music. More piano for sure. No One Ever Does definitely has TR -ballad all over it. I really like the album. Saul is touring, too. I just got a ticket for a show in NYC in April. Can't wait.
