Yea. The books are black and white with VERY little color. Almost done.

Amazon.com has a few pages to peak at and Im sure google image search does too.

The guy that wrote this is co-directing and RR said this isnt really adapting it to the screen , but transfering it. He didnt change , add , or fuck with anything.

Oh yea , and Marv is fucking crazy. And pissed.

id love to go see this opening night but the only place jessica and I like to go is a town called Abacoa. But, we went to see Boogeyman on opening night and it was completely filled with 13-16 year olds. More than half of which were girls and, seriously, the only adults in the whole theater were jessica, me, and a couple sitting next to us. The first scene in the movie there is a bird or something hanging from a string and it twitches and allllll the fuckin girls schreeked and had to tell each other why they schreeked. Needless to say we left and got our money back and went to get drunk at the various bars around the area.

/end rant

Yea, I'm thinking the same thing, by myself is so way better than with the ex :spin:

And oh, the last time I went to the movie theater was to see the last Lord of The Rings... And once again, there were a bunch of parents who do not grasp the meaning of BABYSITTER! I find not much more annoying than paying $15 to see a movie and be in fact listening to babys crying, and toddlers running around screaming...AT 11:30 AT NIGHT!
There should be rules against this crap! :gtfo:

Funny you would say that. The last time I saw Return of the King in the theaters there was a young couple that had a little girl (3 or 4 years old, tops) that just kept running around and carrying on and shit. I wanted to drag the dad out by his collar and smack his around a bit. It was a 9:45 showing... 3.5 hour movie... what the hell were they thinking!?!?!?

I took my sister and her son to see The Two Towers on opening night (my nephew was 9 at the time). He just sat there with his mouth hanging open for the whole flick not saying a peep until the end when the Ents were marching on Isengard; he leaned over to my sister and said "Mommy I have to go to the bathroom." She leaned over and said "No, you don't." He waited.

The story was fine, it was just the over the top silliness of some of the stuff, but I understand that originates from its graphic novel roots.

Fucking awesome movie. If you know what you're getting into you will love it. It's very over the top , very stylized , has those obvious comic book shots , everything. If you have read the books it matches up about 95%. Pretty much the only stuff missing is a few lines here and there.

A few highlights

-Nick Stahl as That Yellow Bastard. I know Mickey Rorke is gonna get a ton of props , deservedly so , as Marv. But TYB was played perfectly. A gross , twisted , fucked up , ugly pedophile. He is one of the grosses things I've ever seen on the big screen.

-The scene Tarantino directed. SOme of you probably know that QT directed a scene in this movie. The car scene in The Big Fat Kill to be exact. And it was one of the best parts of the whole movie. Bencio was awesome in that part. The splashes of color were just right and it was just over all a great scene.

-Mickey Roruke as Marv. It'll be said a million times , but that was perfect casting. Mickey completly owns the role and brings Marv to life exactly how the fanboys saw him.

-Miho. MmmMM. Sword wielding , mute , ninja babe. Her small time was great.

-Elijah Wood as Kevin. Ewwwww , creppy. He plays a mute canninbal who kills prostitutes. To top it off he also knows crazy ass kung fu. The scene were Marv ties him to the tree is one of the craziest scenes I've ever seen and puts Kill Bill to shame.

The bad

-Micheal Madsen just sucks in this movie. I know it's supposed to be over the top and everything but Madsen just totally goes over board with it and completly sucks. Thank god he had little screen time.

-Britanny Murphy. She just can't act. Period. Also little screen time.

-A little too much color. The novels BARLEY had color. The movie had a LOT more. I understand cop sirens and stuff like that , but shoes , medicine bottles , and a few other things are over kill in my book.

Over all it was as good as I was expecting. Not the best movie I've ever seen , but definetly in my top 10. Right up there with Pulp Fiction.

I agree. Nick Stahl is one of my favorite actors. Period.

And I also agree Brittany Murphy sucked. She looks good but damn she can't act unless she's basically playing herself, an upbeat annoying chick...or something.

Saw it, loved it, can't wait to see it again. I could have used more Brittany Murphy. She played a ditzy "broad", she did it well!!! She sounded like any dame you would expect to see in an old hardbolied detective movie.

Madsen just sucked, he played things too tongue in cheek, even for this movie.

Mickey was awesome, so was Willis, Owen, Wood, and Alba. Del Toro... he's the man.

I didn't think the Yellow Bastard looked very good. They made him look too evil. In the comic he looks a lot more pathetic and harmless, which just adds to the horror of what he is.

I didn't care for the Pez dispenser car scene. I'd have to go back and look it up, but I don't recall Jackie-Boy's head lollying back like that in the car, and I really after reading the book, just expected his head to be attached at his spine and nothing else... you know, like a Pez dispenser... poor way to deviate from the book... That was really the only thing that bugged me.

I loved the way Marv walked.

That's a nice coat you have there...

People getting shot 500 times and living and getting hit by a car 3 times and flying up 50 feet in the air each time and living, thats what bugs me. I know its supposed to be unrealistic, but I have my limits, and those things were just to ridiculous for my tastes. Take out some of that stuff and I woulda liked it.

Pudie
April 4th, 2005, 09:58 AM
His head didnt go back and forth like that in the book , but that would be kind of hard to get across anyways. But I'm sure Miller agreed with it.

You're right about him not being pathetic looking like in the book , but I still think Stahl was fucking GREAT in the role.

KenKill75
April 4th, 2005, 10:00 AM
Not being familiar with the graphic novels, when I saw that yellow troll mofo, I was like, what the fuck???

Darken Elise
April 4th, 2005, 10:14 AM
Ken- When you see him in the book you pretty much get the same WTF reaction! There's a few panels where he's trailing them in the car and all you can see is a tiny spot of yellow in the distance. It brought back nightmarish flashbacks of that Dr. Seuss story about green khaki pants.

Marv getting hit by a car/arsenal... Yeah, Marv is just inhuman. Like Dwight said, he was just born in the wrong century and belonged in a gladitor pit. It was just something you needed to accept, or not, in your case. It's supposed to be extreme, tough guys are really tough, pretty girls are really pretty, etc. How about Dwight pushing a car full of dead bodies up a grassy hill in the rain? You know? Just gotta accept it!

Pudie- Jackie-Boy's head.... Milller obvioulsy agreed with it, but I still thought it was a poor decision, that's just my opinion though! Nick Stahl was great as YB, I would have just liked a slightly different make-up job. Chicks in my theater were cheering when he was castrated both times. I felt uncomfortable about that... yikes!

I had no problems with the extended use of color though. Most of the time it highlighted important stuff or drew your eye in a particulr direction. In the novels you can stare at a panel for hours if you want, you can't do that in a flick so they need to get your eyes where they want them somehow... know what I mean?

KenKill75
April 4th, 2005, 10:18 AM
Maybe I just wasnt prepared for it since I didnt know that much about it. I didnt have a problem with things like Dwight pushing the car. Even some of the ridiculous stuff with Jackie Boy I was willing to accept. In retrospect it wasnt that bad, I guess like I said, I just wasnt prepared at the time for it to be so over the top.
