completly changed the nature of the sport, but using actuators and a computer instead of shocks could have some pretty neat applications off the racetrack

Boycott renews doubts that Formula One can succeed in U.S.

INDIANAPOLIS The fallout from the depleted U-S Grand Prix race yesterday at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway has gone to the courts.

Lawyers for a Colorado fan have filed a suit in federal court seeking reimbursement for client Larry Bowers and other ticketholders. They claim they were defrauded after only six cars took part in the Formula One race yesterday. The other 14 drivers withdrew due to Michelin tire concerns.

A Speedway spokesman didn't comment on the lawsuit but says many fans were renewing their tickets.

Speedway President, Joie Chitwood, says no decision has been made whether to refund ticket prices or whether the race would even return to Indy.

The fallout also has extended to the online gambling Web site, Sportsbook-dot-com, which says it would refund all bets placed on the drivers who withdrew.

Yeah that's awful. I have been getting into the F1 Grand Prix over the last 2 or 3 years, and with the more recent talk of how bad things are going for the ...sport and the forced cost-cutting, it's dissapointing.

all in all this season has been one of the most exciting ones in recent times

i went to the race in montreal in 2001 and it was good.. but as big of a fan i am of the sport it got a bit tedious to watch schumacher start in the pole position and run away with the lead for the entire race

this season with all the most recent rule changes lots more teams are competitive

Person
June 20th, 2005, 09:53 PM
It's more exciting for Australians also, with Mark Webber being a part of a decent team now, he's starting to get some points. He's had some bad luck, but I hope he can excel as the season goes on.

Oh man. BEST COMMENTATOR ON ANYTHING EVER!

'unless I am very much mistaken... I AM VERY MUCH MISTAKEN!!!"

In this country, saying something looks to be settled (such as 'they shouldn't be able to lose this match from here', or 'well, he's composed himself very well, hasn't made any obvious mistakes') is known as 'Murray Walkering' - like putting a curse on, or sod's law.

Patrick upset and confused by Ecclestone's comments

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Danica Patrick is upset at Formula One boss Bernie Ecclestone and confused by his comments likening women to "domestic appliances."
Patrick received a telephone call from Ecclestone last week during which he congratulated the Indy Racing League rookie for her performance at the Indianapolis 500, but also reiterated remarks he had made during an interview at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, where the U.S. Grand Prix was being held.

Among the comments Ecclestone made in the interview and to Patrick was that "Women should be all dressed in white like all other domestic appliances."

"I just didn't make sense of it," Patrick said during an IRL teleconference this week. "I was surprised, I guess, somebody would say that to me. And the days after, when it actually came out in the press, people were asking me 'What do you think of that?'

"I was like, 'You know what he told me? He said that on the phone.'

Patrick said some of Ecclestone's comments were positive and complimentary, which made the exchange more perplexing.

"I can't believe that he would say it to me over the phone, not to my face, but directly to me," she said. "I was a bit confused. ... So I don't really know what to think about it.

"I don't know if he was talking about someone else or the majority or what, I'm not really sure. Or, maybe that's his real feeling.

"If that's the case, then you know, (it) doesn't really matter because I'm racing in the Indy Racing League."

Last month, Patrick became the first woman to lead a lap at the Indianapolis 500. She finished fourth, the best finish by a female in the 89-year history of the race.

Ecclestone did not immediately return a call to his London office. Patrick was on the road Wednesday, traveling to Richmond, Va., where she will race Saturday night.

Ecclestone has made controversial remarks about women before. He told Autosport racing magazine in 2000 that women could not compete in Formula One, but if one did, "she would have to be a woman who was blowing away the boys. ... What I would really like to see happen is to find the right girl, perhaps a black girl with super looks, preferably Jewish or Muslim, who speaks Spanish."

:sigh: ecclestone is such an idiot...

i heard mike dunn, during the NHRA event the other day say..."good thing he's rich because he sure has no common sense..."
