It can't be true that no one likes them. "Is This It" is an awesome album! I'm getting into "Room on Fire" more and more....why does everybody seem to rag on them? Does anybody actually give them a chance? hmmmmmm...I wonder.

I hope there's a few fans in here....otherwise I'm alone

Which one are they? Are they the ones that wear the suits... have the fat bass player.. and the long haired lead singer that acts funny when he performs?

the one with the drunk, pill poppin, mushroom eating singer
Well, that's what I took from some of the lyrics and one of their videos. Why don't you download a song or two. \/\/\/\/

Alright. I'll download a cd... b/c it's easier to get a cd than an individual song.

EDIT: oh you were pointing to UR FTP. didn't catch that :)

- That would be the Hives -- which are awesome as well.

Yeah, that's who I was referring to. I haven't listened to much of their music, but the last time I saw them perform on TV (think it was on Carson Daily.. or maybe it was Leno, idk) I thought they were awful.

A band similar to them I used to like that did that song where that guy's singing like "I wanna get free, I wanna get free, I wanna get free, ride into the sun
she never loves me, she never loves me, she never loves me, ...."

The video I think had lightening in it. Anyway, i liked that song.

EDIT: I googled those lyrics and found it was The Vines. Oh and I listened to the whole cd that song was on, but didn't care for it to much. Only listened to it once though.

Really, they're an exceedingly ordinary band, but their second album was far more interesting than their first. It rocked a little bit. It sounded good when it came on the radio. The last track was good.

I mean, they're a passing trend, and the hype machine killed any ounce of credibility they may have had... just as it will to the Arcade Fire in a year and a half. And just as it has done to Trail of Dead.

I really thought the Strokes would have a better chance of survival than the White Stripes, though. It seemed as though we had a new Beatles/Stones thing going on. Not that either band was anywhere near as good as their predecessor, but I'm looking at things in a cultural light here.

Is anyone really that surprised that the ship sank? They'll release at least one more critically hailed album, then you'll never see them on tv again, and they'll split into shitty side projects.

It's all well and good, though. This is the natural order of things. It's best not to concern yourself too heavily with critical darlings and Next Big Things... you just end up getting hurt. Especially when they're as droning, derivative, and hooked to one specific genre as the Strokes.

The white stripes suck

I got the first album by the strokes and thought it was pretty good.

I like their sound, I like their songs, what more do you need?

I have "Is This It?" and it's alright, but I have to say that it gets on my nerves after awhile. it's the kind of music that (to me) is fun for a song or two, but after that it gets old. I can only listen to a few songs at a time before I need to put in something else to break up the monotony. I haven't listened to their second album though, so I can't say anything about it.

But I love the White Stripes.

I like White Stripes. What i heard of the Strokes was OK, never bought an album, though.

Not a fan of either The Strokes or the White Stripes. I did like Audioslave's cover of Seven Nation Army at Lollapalooza, though.
