i'm pretty much limited to articles that are based in reality, so i myself will admit there are some days that are slower than others, but are the articles i post on the news page funny or interesting/weird enough to read about?
just looking for some feedback.
http://www.encircling.us (http://www.encircling.us)
EDIT: also, would you say that the quotes i list from the article good choices? do they make good teasers?

that's what i'm aiming for (at the very least). that it keeps you coming back to check everyday. that's good.

Well sometimes I just bypass the homepage altogether. But sometimes I'm in the mood for wacky news stories, usually about human stupidity.
So I find them funny, but not something I go out of my way for.

I don't bookmark anything. But it would draw me in further to meet the other people that frequent the site.
The homepage really does fit us all quite nicely. When are we not making fun of the stupid things in the world?

I pretty much agree with all of what Trizz said.
I always scan the headlines, and any of them that I find funny I read the blurb and the ones I really like I hit the link and read the whole article.
For the most part they are worth the read.

It's funny that you brought this up. I've been meaning to tell you how much I love those news articles. I think they are a great addition to the site and I thank you for taking the time to find them and post them for us.
The teasers are perfect, you read them and just have to read the rest of the story.
Where the hell do you get them?

i have a huge list of sites i comb through and i pick the ones i think would be worthy of reading. some days there's just nothing at all. other days i have to eliminate a few of them because there were so many.

I read them because I never took the time to change the bookmark to take me directly to the forums, so everytime I come here I end up seeing the news page first.
I read through the excerpts, and I'd say they're pretty good. If I've got time and one of the articles seems interesting, I'll check out it out.

yep. the blurbs are actually harder to compose than you think. i want to make it funny, informing, but i also have to walk the fine line of not giving too much away, making it enticing enough to read, etc.,
...and sometimes, the articles just aren't that funny to quote from.

it may sound cheesy (:bird:, in advance), but in a way i'm trying to provide an alternative to news sites that only concentrate on the negative reporting. that, and celebrity-related bullshit.
if it makes someone laugh out loud once in a while, then i've done what i set out to do. that's enough for me.

there's a radio show in the UK, called 'The Worst Week Of The Week Awards Awarded Weekly On A Week-By-Week Basis For Those Who've Had A Bad Week'; which trawls up the unluckiest people from these strange news stories, your site spoils it usually cos I know most of the stories.
My favourite one is still this one though:
If there were two types of people you'd think could never get into a fight, you'd say monks, and Buddhists. Even if they're not the top, they must be near it. Well, we got strange scenes in Thailand where riot police were called to break up a brawl that broke out between two rival groups of Buddhist monks. Genius. What the hell can a buddhist monk find to fight about!???!??!?!?

Boy brought grenade to show and tell
A primary school in Poland had to be evacuated after a nine-year-old boy brought a live hand grenade to a 'show and tell' session.
The pupils had been asked to bring something interesting into the classroom to show their classmates.
Nine-year-old Piotr Ernst, from Trzebnik, decided that a hand grenade from his dad's collection of WWII memorabilia was the perfect thing.
When later questioned by police, the youngster's father, Fryderyk, said he had dug up the grenade along with other WWII artifacts that he had found using a metal detector in woods near his home.
