View Full Version : MVP 2005 shipping Feb. 22nd!?!

From Gamespot:
Retailers list EA's baseball title as shipping February 22, a week earlier than thought.
Electronic Arts' third-base coach appears to be waving home MVP Baseball 2005 a week early. As listed by online retailers EBGames.com and GameStop.com, MVP's apparent new release date is February 22, up from its previous shipping date of March 1. Representatives from EA were unavailable to confirm the new release date as of press time.
Typically, a simple change in release date would seem rather minor. But given the jabs that EA and rival Take-Two Interactive have been trading, particularly in the sports sector, the new date was likely designed to get a head start on MVP's primary competition, 2K Sports' MLB 2K5, set to be released March 1 on the Xbox and PS2. MVP's new release date also distances the title from the rest of the baseball pack. Sony's MLB 2006 for the PS2 will be released March 1, and Nintendo's GameCube-exclusive Nintendo Pennant Chase Baseball will be released April 4.
MVP Baseball 2005 will be available for the PC, PlayStation 2, Xbox, and GameCube. The game is rated "E" for Everyone and will retail for $29.99 on all formats. For more information on MVP Baseball 2005, slide over to GameSpot's previous coverage.

MVP is $29.99. To me, pitching and hitting are both much better in MVP. More realistic. And fielding is really good in MVP too. Plus, the owner mode is much deeper than ESPN's franchise mode.

Swing by pressing A, use the left thumstick to try to hit the ball in certain directions, to left or right, flyball, groundball, etc.
Use the face buttons to throw to the corresponding base on the diamond. Hold the button longer for harder throws, with more chance of errant throw.

First of all, make sure the circle thingy is on for fly balls, otherwise they're damn near impossible to judge. Other than that it should be pretty straight forward. Anything specific you're having trouble with on the defense side?

well, i activated the pitch cursor so i could aim where i wanted to throw, but which zone should i try to pitch at, which one should i try to avoid? how long do i hold down the pitch button when winding up? stuff like that...
KenKill75
March 9th, 2005, 10:13 AM
Throw to the blue (cold) zones. Avoid the red (hot) zones. Hold it down fairly long. The longer you hold it down, the more effective the pitch will be if you hit the mark when the meter goes the other way. But the more effective you want it, the smaller the zone will be for it to be a perfect pitch. When you reach the effectiveness you want, let go, then hit it again when it gets toward the center of that zone on the meter for it to be a good pitch. Its all timing and without too much time you should get it down.

Without color means its a neutral zone. They are fair hitters on pitches in those zones.

i was looking at some reviews at metacritic for both the ea and espn baseball games on metacritic and noticed this excerpt:
The addition of online leagues is a huge plus. However, MLB 2K5 still has a ways to go if it intends to compete with the memory of "MVP" next year. The animations need a complete overhaul, the AI definitely needs a reworking, and the Franchise Mode has to see significant innovation outside of a nicer interface.
what did ign mean by that?

exactly when you set up your rosters you have 4 different line-ups that you have to put together...you probably have Conine in 3 of the four line-ups(cause he was already there)....

Damn, the more I play MVP 2005, the more pissed off I get with the realization that this is the last year for at least 7 years. I bought both MLB 2k5 and MVP 2005 this year. When I fist started playing 2k5, I was blown away by the apparent improvements from the 2004 version. I initially found myself favoring it over MVP. However, after playing several games, it seems that most of the improvements are in the eye candy. The game looks simply stunning, yet at the same time the animations look stiff...and there are not a ton of different ones. The new pitching method is pretty cool, but it seems way to easy to hit. And, the hitting animation variety is small. (basically, after a few games, it seems that there are only a few different types of hits...and it becomes repetitive). The last thing that really seems to kill 2k5 is in the AI...and some game bugs. It's a solid base, but Take Two/Kush needs to take more time next year and polish the gameplay more before they release it. As for this year, I'll be playing MVP the majority of the time.
