I purchased this model about 5 months ago or so for about $300 and I'm very pleased with it. (It has full manual and automatic settings) This is the Canon Powershot A80. Of course due to this damn rampant technology that I've been reading about, the A85 and A90 models are out and of course they possess improvements in design and features that surpass mine for roughly the same price tag.

Just like Tzarina mentioned. It all depends on what you want to spend and what your needs are. Just do some searching, read some reviews, ask specific questions and then assess the situation and make a decision based on the data you have collected.

if you are doing "photography" get a real SLR camera. If your photographu consists of "snapshots", go digital. If you have $900 to spend, get a digital SLR :P

- I still recommend Polariod cameras  , but Canon and Sony digital cameras are good choices...

I use a Canon EOS Rebel T2 35mm. It takes pretty amazing pictures. I also got the Canon EF 28-105mm f/4-5.6 USM Zoom Lens to go with it.
