i never really felt one way or another when it came to those dogs until my dad got one for my mom. what happened was that she had accidently left her fave dog (a westie/poodle mix) in the room with another stray dog that was 4X his size. sometimes they never crossed paths, but not that day. the shitty part was that i had warned her countless times to give the other dog away as they've had troubles in the past.

when she got back home, she found the dog dead. my dad got pissed (as i would have), and took the other dog to the shelter. all of us were crushed. that dog, like all our dogs, was part of our family.

so, my dad did the right thing and offered to buy her the dog she's always wanted: a yorkie. lily's the only dog they've purchased and the only pure-bred dog they've ever owned. my mom's always picked up mutts off the street.
