downfalls? security issues? By sitting in a strategic spot in my new household, I have found myself able to connect to an unsecured wireless internet source. This signal is most likely comming from another unit close to me. Im excited obviously because I will not have to be paying for any service. BUT, should I be concerned in any way for doing this?? thanx, as usual.

If they are not smart enough to block you, they are not smart enough to catch you, you should be able to get away with it no problem.

The only way you they might notice is if you take up a bunch of bandwidth, just don't use any filesharing programs or any bandwidth intensive things.

If you just keep to the message boards you sould be fine.

ive ran around with a laptop in my car and connected to dozens of peoples computers in neighborhoods. 9/10 people have porno all over, and one person had underage gay porn. I also went on the Red Cross network, and played around with their unsecured router software. Good times.

And when you log onto a network, your computer is identified, so people can see it and what its doing, if they are smart enough. But considering most people know nothing about security, they wouldnt have a clue.

Eventually they might notice their internet is running slow and do something to secure the network. I knew someone that got free internet b/c they picked up a signal from a sororiety house they lived near that had a wireless network.

I almost always use wireless internet now b/c it's what I have at school and at home. Them putting wireless internet instead of wired over our school was the dumbest idea I've ever heard of. It makes the internet slow as shit and they have 3 T1's.

oh also.. i've never used one before.. but you can buy bridges to help extend the signal to make it stronger. So you might could get one of those to make your connection even stronger :) Of course you might have to configure the bridge w/ whoever's router it is.. which might involve breaking into a house or building or two until you figure out where it's comming from. :what:

how do you see what people have over their computer just by logging on their network? wouldn't they have to be sharring their porn in order for you to see it?

Its fun to put lemonparty and/or goatse pictures mixed into unsuspecting victims' family photo files. Or better yet, printing out porno to their shared printer. Little johnny boy wakes up to find a bunch of porno printed out on daddys printer. Fun stuff.

Thanks for the reminder guys, I had turned ff my WEP as I was having wireless difficulties, but I turned it back on. The freakin' modem/router that Verizon supplied was transmits so weak that you would have to be sitting in my kitchen to leach off of it! (which is part of the difficulties I'm having!)

If you go into the DHCP routing table (depending on what kind of router you have...I have a wireless Linksys one) and I can see about serveral other people in my nieghborhood on my table.......if you are worried about someone using your connection just use WEP-enable on your router.

Ok, stupid question, as I'm a n00b on this stuff...If you are the one doing leeching, and you have encryption protection with the wireless adapter, does that keep you from being identified by the victim of your theft, or can they still identify you?
