DANNY CAREY is playing drums on ADIAN BELEW's solo project entitled "SIDE ONE" (Sanctuary Records), with the third member of the "power trio" being Primus bass guitarist Les Claypool. "Side One" is the first of three solo releases by Belew, so look for more of the triumvirate in the future.

Not much news really, but here's the latest from Blair (with lots of editing out the silly stuff):
Evidently, the golden bowl of Jelly Belly’s in Tool’s rehearsal space is running low, because while dining on Indian cuisine the other night at the Bollywood Café, Danny told me that they’d knocked out another song that very afternoon. In describing it, he mentioned something or other about Maynard’s vocals – something that he seemed excited about, although to be perfectly honest, I really don’t remember what it was.
Camella mentioned something about the song being “heavy” – either that or she was talking about the Theakstons.
Some Tool enthusiasts might be happy to know that, in order to meet their self-imposed deadline for finishing material for the new record, the members of the band will be working on Valentine’s Day and the more heathen Roman Feast of Lupercalia, with writing/arranging sessions going well into what Milton called “the palpable obscure.” So, while some of you ladies are picking through your beribboned boxes of confectionery blah, blah, blah........remember who is working hard to create more of those “chromatic tortures” that pierce the aeythrs in your bedroom.

This person goes on ad nauseam about insignficant stuff and when there is something people actually would want to know about, the above is what they get. Or, or Blair is just fucking with people and really does remember but doesn't want to say. Either way, I just wish he'd keep it to himself unless he has something that would actually matter to Tool fans.

CAMELLA HAS MY RADIO SHACK VOICE RECORDER
Evidently, the golden bowl of Jelly Belly’s in Tool’s rehearsal space is running low, because while dining on Indian cuisine the other night at the Bollywood Café, told me that they’d knocked out another song that very afternoon. In describing it, he mentioned something or other about Maynard’s vocals – something that he seemed excited about, although to be perfectly honest, I really don’t remember what it was. At the time I was content with my papadam and glasses of Taj Mahal. From what he said about the timing and chord structure, however, this piece sounded like the song Adam played unplugged for Vidal last March in Havana as we sat on the balcony of a casa particulare (after eating those mysterious hamburguesas near Cementerio de Colon). I could have asked AJ, who was sitting at the other end of the table, but, at the time, he appeared to be enjoying his papadam and various exotic condiments as well, so, instead, I changed the subject and talked to about Collodi’s Pinocchio.
After sampling several curries and another large Taj Mahal, I popped a green opal (an Icelandic pastille) and headed with the others to a nearby pub that we’ll call the “Slug and Lettuce” for some pints of Old Peculiar ale. While sipping the treacley stuff (molasses?), Camella mentioned something about the song being “heavy” – either that or she was talking about the Theakstons. You might be as horrified as a puffin at Porrablot (even if not among the delicacies on the menu), but I really don’t remember which it was. So, perhaps I should pay a visit to the loft tomorrow to have a listen for myself, and to see exactly how many of those new-fangled jelly beans are left in the golden bowl.
Some Tool enthusiasts might be happy to know that, in order to meet their self-imposed deadline for finishing material for the new record, the members of the band will be working on Valentine’s Day and the more heathen Roman Feast of Lupercalia, with writing/arranging sessions going well into what Milton called “the palpable obscure.” So, while some of you ladies are picking through your beribboned boxes of confectionery, Godiva or otherwise, with strawberries enrobed in chocolate and flutes of sparkling French champagne to be sipped ‘neath the waxing crescent - all because Claudius the Cruel had Saint Valentine beheaded - remember who is working hard to create more of those “chromatic tortures” that pierce the aeythrs in your bedroom. Therefore, any sightings of band members tonight only proves that their Doppelgangers also have lady friends and don’t suffer from, what has been called, the deficiency of Venus.

MESSAGE IN "NO QUARTER" ON TOOL'S SALIVAL
"Dear Blair, I I'll try not to babble or run on, I realize you have a lot of these to read, so here goes. I have discovered a subliminal message in the song No Quarter on the Salival CD/DVD, I have had several friends listen to it, so I know I'm not just hearing things, or wishing I were. However, we all share one thing in common: none of us can discern what it is that Maynard is saying. I was wondering if you would do me a considerable kindness and either a. Tell me what it says, or b. tell me where I can find out and how."
THE REPLY:
Just in case there's somebody living in a cave who doesn't know about this, lots of people have attempted to isolate the so-called subliminal message (whispered by MJK while in the recording studio and not in his well-stocked wine celler) via high tech audio equipment, and some have posted their findings on the internet. Although I've yet to read a single posting that contains the correct answer, there's always a chance that someone has discerned the actual message, and that I've missed his/her posting. However, since I have received hundreds of emails over the years asking about the message, I am happy to address this issue. First of all, my advice to anyone interested or obsessing over this matter is that I wouldn't waste too much time tryiing to figure it out. That's because the message is NOW totally irrelevant. Secondly, in my reply here, I have given the answer as to what is being said, albeit somewhat cryptically - but it's all right here in these very words. But, like I said, it's now irrelevant, so let's move on, shall we.

its how these bands like tool and nine inch nails do it these days - make one album and wait five or six years so fans get really stoked and buy the fuck out of a new album, ticket sellouts in large venues, with the fans rushing to get the tickets before they sell out.

Hopefully, I'll get a chance to see how the recording process is going tomorrow. I owe MJK a bottle of wine anyway, so if I make over there, I'll post something. We'll probably post a newsletter as well, as I take St. Patrick's Day(Thursday) fairly seriously, what with the green-foaming Harps and pub-queen Faline.

TOOL NEWSLETTER,
FEBRUARY, 2005 e.v.
While inching forward on a sticky floor full of spilt honey-popcorn (goddamnit!), a couple of guys who earlier recognized Maynard ask me what's going on with the band. "Don't you read the website?" I ask them. "Yes, we know that the silver Coleman keeps ice for three days, but what about the new CD?" "Okay, the recording sessions are going very well, although it's still too early in the process for there to be a specific release date. Ditto with the live DVD, which isn't finished being edited yet, and which probably won't be released until after the new CD, perhaps in tandem with some other goodies that have been in the works for a while.
