Its not that bad, all this stuff comes with install disks, just pop the disk in, run the install and that should do it, as far as your PC goes. The Xbox is all plug and play, just plug it in and if it doesn't work nothing you can do.

Linksys is decent, but I highly recommend D-Link. Hands down, the best router on the market. Many of these no-name brands are highly prone to attack.

- Wireless routers will definitely be the more expensive and I would advise against getting one. Go wired if do-able.
The Judas Cow
February 2nd, 2005, 09:46 PM
Wireless is a shit load more exspensive, go wired.
bigisy
February 2nd, 2005, 09:48 PM
my xbox is right next to the pc so i dont really need a wireless.

February 2nd, 2005, 09:58 PM
awesome! does all the wriring and shit come with the router do i buy that seperately? (the cable that connects the xbox to the router)
The Judas Cow

You may get one with the router, you will need a total of three.
I assume you have one now (modem to PC)
So you will more than likely only need one more

If you have patience (which i dont think any modern gamer really has), you can get very cheap cords online.

Either cat 5 ethernet cable or a patch cable.
Just ask they guy at the store, he may roll his eyes at you but he only makes $8 an hour so just remeber, you're better than him

- bigs, make sure (if you don't know already) that you get an RJ45 Male/RJ45 Male Ethernet cable(s). Meaning that one single cable will have the exact same clear input/connectors on both ends.
- It's basically a homosexual cable...

also, make sure it is a "patch" or "straight through" cable, not a "cross over" cable

i dont even think you really needed a router if you have a USB port. I was using the USB cable to connect my computer to the modem and then used the open NIC card and connected my xbox to that... but now i do have a router since my gf just bought a new computer. :tongue2:

I've had my computer. I had it hooked up to the internet via usb cable and the xbox took the open NIC port. Then Jessica wanted one so she bought a Dell. Then we needed a router so Live could still be up and running
