i bought fifa 2005 just a few weeks ago and i'm pretty happy with the game. i love the gameplay and selection of teams, however, i keep hearing how pro evolution/winning eleven is the superior footy game although they don't have the licensing down.

anyone picking this game up? i believe it's out 2/1.

i have pro evo 4! (winning eleven 8 in us lol) im in england and we got it first! its awesome. the ball control is so much better than that found in fifa games. its also graphically better IMO. the only probs i can think of is the fact that after playing fifa first it can take some time to get to grips with. but once you learn about all the pressure sensitivity and stuff you could score some spectacular goals.

well, the shooting system is far more accurate and detailed. for example the longer you hold the sqare button the more power you'll get behind your shot but less accuracy.i know this feature is also in some fifa games but it isn't as good as pro evo. then theres the ball itself. the physics in pro evo are far more realistic........no half way line goals and the ball doesn't suddenly appear at your feet when you do a first time shot. you have o accurately time your shot as the ball is now and object with its own rules of physics.

sorry dude lol, as far as i know, it has european, asian and american leagues. the teams dont have the same names so its difficult to know which team you're playing as, but after a while you get accustomed to it.

i dont have winning eleven 8, i've got pro evo 3 (WE7 i think). i tried out WE8 at a friends and from what i was able to check out there doesn't seem to be individual country leagues. i could be wrong but i'll ask him tommorow just to make sure!

you just need to know it down a level or two.....i played and still do on 1 star ( you can score some spectaculer goals like this!) also try getting right into the area, its not like fifa where you could score from waaaaaay outside the box :crazy:

Pretty much. You can do an ally-oop from centre-line, if you're good and have a South American team...however, only once have I scored from the centre-line without an ally-oop...and that was pure luck...

Cant believe i just seen this now i love the pro evo games...

they are so much better than FIFA, the touch, passing, crossing, free kicks, shots are all more realistic. some of the one touch passing is breath taking.

fifa use the ball as animation stuck to the player, where pro evo uses the ball has completly independant animation, therefore all the plays look different and every goal is different from the last one.

to fifa's credit, they improved the ball physics this year and it functions independently from the player, but the gameplay is just not as realistic as winning eleven and scoring goals in fifa is just way to easy.

on the other hand, scoring goals in WE8, at least for me, is a bitch!!!

the problem i had the first couple of games was that i kept having players getting kicked out with red cards...but recent games i've gotten better at taking the ball away...i just can't kick with accuracy for sh*t!!!..lol..

since you helped me out big time with your madden tips, i'll give you a few tips i've learned while playing winning eleven 8...

use your goalie (and your teammates) as 'safety valves' for when things get hectic around your goal. if you manage to steal the ball and don't have enough space to lob it out of there, pass it to the nearest player (be careful though) aim the left thumbstick to either the left or right and press X to lob the ball out of there. if you decide to pass it back to your goalie for the clear, make sure to pass it to him using A, not X, Y, or B.

use practice mode to get familiar with all the different passes. remember, A is for a normal pass, Y is for a pass meant to slice through a defense, so use this unless you're absolutely sure, and B are for lob passes...similar to an alley-oop in basketball, only the receiving players tries to head in the ball with his um, HEAD. :rolleyes: to head it, you would hit X like if you were shooting...it all depends on where the ball lands in relation to the player.

know when to use your defensive moves and try not to get any red/yellow cards. as for me, i mash on the X button repeatedly when i'm trailing behind a player, but i try not to depend on it too much or i know they'll be getting a free kick. mix it up a little. now when you're facing a player, you could either use the A button, or try your luck by just getting in his face and stealing it with your legs (no button presses, just tie him up with your legs). as for the B button, only use this when you're absolutely sure that you'll be able to nip the ball before touching the player (i'm not sure about the rules, but it's worked for me). only trip him up when you're both facing each other. you'll get called for a penalty everytime if you do it from behind. do all these moves with caution as you will get fouled if you overdo it.

also, when you're on defense, try getting into the habit of switching players whenever the opposing team makes a pass and rush your players towards them so they're forced to hurry their passes. there'll be times where you won't need to change players because the pass wasn't too far away, but just get used to the left trigger and the fact that it switches between players.

finally, try getting used to the map below. at first i didn't like it as i felt it was a litle obstructive, but try getting used to it as soon as you could. it'll help you plan out your passes.

baby steps, man. don't use the d-pad to aim anything for now...in fact don't use the d-pad at all until you've mastered what i've written. it's too much to think about when you're playing those first few games.

when you start learning to score goals and win games, then i'd recommend looking into the game's additional controls.

yep, colombia's pretty good in this game. they gave me some trouble when i played them the first few times, but like with all the good teams, i eventually beat 'em.

what i usually do is pick out a country for that day and play like a best 2 out of 3. one at home, one over there, and one at home again if necessary (or vice-versa). if i'm playing at france or something, i even switch the commentary language just for effect...pretty damn cool. i wish they had more languages though.

the randomness of this game is what makes it so appealing. it's so good, i'm planning on buying an extra copy later on for my ps2. i'll be taking that on trips and what-not.

the movement is different though.......alot harder to control IMO also shooting is significant;y harder as the goalkeeper is alot bettter. hes more realistic in the newer game so its easier to score

when you're aiming your penalty shot, don't hit the thumbstick all the way to the left or right, just aim it ever so slightly. if not, the ball will be off by a lot and you'll miss.

when you're playing goalie, always assume they're going for the strike down the middle, but work on your reaction time for when they choose to go left or right.

i bought the ps2 version of the game and i must say that aside from the slightly longer loading times, the game controls much better. it just feels more responsive. using the d-pad instead of the xbox's left thumbstick just has a better feel to it. i was surprised.

the league seems to get progressively harder. Im notsure if its just me or if the game is genuinely programmed to get harder, but at the moment the more matchecs i win the harder it gets.
