It's a tie between Hoobastank (opening for Velvet Revolver) and Burning Brides.

i went to the ft. myers show, and man, they were horrible. they spent half the time telling the audience to fuck off and the other half raking their fingernails on a chalkboard.

also, compare that with getting soaked the show i attended before that, and ANYTHING indoors (nice and warm) is better.

TMV & Tomahawk!?!?! WTF!?!?!?!?!? I've only seen a boot of TMV but it was awesome as hell. And Tomahawk was great. Patton even raped a deer decoy. It was classic.
Without a doubt the worst opening band I've ever seen is Fieldys Dreams opening for KoRn. Wow does he suck. Burning Brides also sucked too. And I actually thought MSI sucked when they opend for KoRn and I had no idea who they were.
Kittie was horse shit too , but that was at ozzfest so thats not really an opening band.
jazz
January 20th, 2005, 09:10 AM
i liked tomahawk even though i didn't know any of the songs when i saw them. i thought patton was hilarious with his obnoxious screaming and taunting of the audience. he knew no one was there to see them and only wanted tool. hehe.

Since this was at a festival of sorts, you couldn't really call them an opening band, but waiting for Bush to finish their set so I could see RATM was pure agony. They just wouldn't leave. Song after wretched song, they kept on playing. You could see the guys from Rage on the side of the stage looking like they were ready to just run out and start playing regardless. It was almost like they were trying to upstage everyone else that played that day when nobody even gave a shit about them. It got to the point where damn near everyone of the 140k ppl on hand were chanting "WE WANT RAGE, GET OFF THE STAGE".
Also, Tomahawk sucked opening for Tool, but it was supposed to. And I couldn't stand Mini Kiss or Burning Brides opening for APC.
On a side note, one of the better opening acts I've ever seen was Snake River Conspiracy when they opened for APC during the MDN tour.

Burning Brides. APC Show.
I believe at one point, the lead singer asked if we were "evil motherfuckers." and that yes, "we looked like evil motherfuckers."
:shame:
Perhaps we looked evil cause we wanted to hear music, not ear rape.

Just thought of another! I had to sit through 2 local punk bands before Warsawpack came on. They weren't really opening bands, and Warsawpack wasn't the last band, and I wasn't there specifically to see Warsawpack cause I hadn't even heard of them yet.... but in hindsight: local punk bands suck, Warsawpack were infuckingcredible.

January 20th, 2005, 02:06 PM
wow, i could have a 100 post list of the bad opening bands i've seen...
going WAY back...
Cinderella...oh god worst of hair metal.
on the opposite note...I had to see Pantera open for skid row. needless to say, left EARLY...
slaughter and faster pussycat... opened for KISS, whom i don't like either...that was the worst concert i have ever been kidnapped and drug to... well besides, motley crue, bon jovi, whitesnake billing...some festival thing when I was super young too.
And the topper... Dokken opened up for Aerosmith...1989...oh god, save me please was all i was thinking... :ar15:
~i learned a long time ago to always either arrive late, or know who is opening and what they sound like...cause you can be in for your ears and brains worst surprise if ya wait and see...
on the other hand, besides Pantera... liitle richard opened for david bowie, as did stevie ray vaughn, and both were amazing...so best openers there...

Nickelback (Orgy, Papa Roach)
Tricky (Tool)
I sat through Nickelback when they opened for Orgy and Papa Roach in 2000. "Leader of Men" was on the radio constantly, so when they played, the singer calls out: "How many of you know our single?" And everyone goes "whoo!" Then he asks, "so how many of you bought our album?" And nobody whooed. And with good reason.
I like Tricky a lot, actually. But whoever was running soundboard that show sucked goat scrotum. You couldn't hear shit, and we were walking near the stage buying merch. I felt bad, but it was just this constant hum of noise rather than any music.
I still maintain that Burning Brides are good as long as Dimitri doesn't attempt any sort of audience banter. Plus they were pretty cool when I caught their club show. Both Melanie and Jason (bass and drums) signed my cd (and Jason's about as tall as Maynard, which makes me laugh.)

Now that I think about it...........Un Loco, and Taproot before Chevelle came on. Disturbed was the main band, but I actually went just to see Chevelle. Disturbed surprisingly put on a good show though.

Disturbed can put on a good show. It would be even better if they got a better singer without a holier-than-thou ego.

Just so you know, I haven't been to a lot of shows, but the worst I actually sat through was Fear Factory. Don't get me wrong, I really really like them (hence the AV), but damn they just couldn't get the feeling across when they played. I wanted to enjoy it, but hey...
(second of 4 bands opening for KoRn, and I really felt like going to sleep half way through korn's set)
