I had previously opened up a ticket entitled "Server Issues." I believe Evan C. was the person I was conversing with.

The problem was with the server acting up and not moving as quickly as it should. I suggested having the site switched over to a faster server, then Evan C. suggested I run a traceroute on my computer. I ran one, took a screenshot, and submitted it. He told me that the site was fine. The ticket was closed.

Ever since I had received the notification of the power failure, my site has been getting slower and slower each and every day. The past couple of days have been dreadful and I wanted to know what was going on. I asked everyone on my message board to run a traceroute and submit their screenshots to me along with their location. I plan to submit these to the Customer Representative that helps me on this ticket, so please advise me on when and where to send them.

Now, I will admit that your company has been loyal to me and has never shut down the site because of a late payment. In fact, the Customer Service has been responsive and quick, and the company has shown me loyalty so I will be patient and stick by your company before I would even consider moving my site.

In closing, I had another issue regarding my email. I've never experienced problems with my email since signing up with your company, but lately I haven't been able to send email through SMTP. I have not changed any passwords, so I was wondering what the exact problem was.

Just as previous ticket I am not able to duplicate the slowness you are experienceing either, at this workstation or my home computer which is on a residential cable modem provider.

I looked at the traceroute that you submitted in your last ticket. The traceroute was only 14 hops and the longest taking 13ms (milliseconds).

The only traceroutes we would need would be the one's that you could see problems with. What I mean by that, are traceroutes that either die or take an extreme about of time between "hops". Why the traceroutes are helpful to us is that it gives the exact route that you are taking from a specific location on the internet to a specific ip address on the internet. Each "hop" is a router that you are going though to get to that Ip.


Now on to the second issue. Obviously you have checked all you SMTP settings. An error message could be helpful. But uf you are just having trouble sending mail thier is 2 things you should probably try.

1)(even though it has worked fine in the past) if you have a software firewall or antivirus software running on the computer, try disabling it temporarly.

2) Try changing the SMTP server to that of you ISP (internet service provider). Some ISP (especially the larger residential ones) block other domain server from sending on thier network, and only their smtp to send on thier network. They do this to stop and reduce the amount of spam and virus activity on thier network.

As always we are more than willing to work with you to try and troubleshoot any issue you are having. Being able to duplicate an issue, gives us a direction to troubleshoot in and assure that the problem is resolved.

Ive looked through all of the traceroutes and the are stopped for a number of different reason. A couple of them point to problems with routing through eastern-telecoms and at&t. Some of the other ones are blocked leaving their local networks, the rest complete fine except one that looks like it might have stalled at our distro core, but not for more than 150ms, which isnt too bad but could have been caused by a dos attack or something similar. I dont see anything consistant unfortunately.

ok, so for those of you who are just logging on for the first time today, here's what happened...when i signed on this morning (i woke up late since i have the day off from work), everyone was complaining how the board had reverted back to (and "lost") all the posts and new users during this past week. this was happening to my entire site, not just the message board.

in any case, i contacted support and the guy managed to fix it. let me know if the site being on this new server helps anything. if it doesn't, i'm considering moving my site elsewhere. this is their last chance.

nah, i just removed the no hotlinking command. i didn't like how it interfered with my customized google search page (the logo wasn't showing up).

Board is teh slow again. I'll click on a link, it won't do anything, I'll visit another website with another open window and it will load fine, I come back to encircling.....it eventually decides to react.

But it could just be me.

It was a little slow at times yesterday. Today it was all kinds of goofy. Then it seemed to actually be down for a few. I "test" my connection when this happens with other sites by opening another tab and connecting. If it's fast, I assume something is wrong with your server. I usually try MySpace since it's such crap and doesn't work half the time. I had no issue connecting to it today. :shrug:
