View Full Version : I'm currently without power
jazz
October 25th, 2005, 08:38 PM
right now i'm using what's left of my laptop's battery and my dialup to let you guys know that i'm alright, but that i will not be on for a while. if you have any questions, please refer them to capt and joga until i get back.
for those of you wondering, my house is ok, save for that outdoor roof covering (i forget what it's called now) that got yanked out and thrown over my roof. yes, the storm literally took the whole thing out and threw it on my roof, then it landed on the front and left side of my home. luckily the sliding glass held up and didn't break, although i do plan on replacing it and buying shutters for next year. if that thing broke, god knows what would have happened to my house, so i feel lucky after all.
anyways, i just wanted to let you guys know that my wife and i (and my family) are OK, and that i might be without power for either a few more days, a week, or even two weeks. i'm not sure when i'm going back to work either, so i guess whenever i do, i'll be able to get online and talk to you guys. this really sucks.
take care.

Hard to believe but true. They are a team built for the new NHL, but their success won't last much longer. They'll be a playoff team, but I don't see them going far.
Also, that team is wasted on Nashville. :shame: When hockey is a secondary sport to monster truck rallies, you know there is a problem.

JOGA: why is the sky blue?
i'm going to answer this one for joga, being a physics major
human eyes are trichromatic, meaning they have three sets of rods & cones for detecting visible light. becuase there is only 3, they can detect overlap and therefore a very large number of colours (yellow + blue = green and so on). the light in the sky is light from the sun, every colour in the spectrum is included. the atmosphere of the earth deflects the light of the sun at such an angle that only high energy visible light (indigo & violet) make it to you during the daytime. your eyes, being trichromatic (or dichromatic if you are colour blind to any colour) cannot detect the difference between the particular wavelength of light that is violet and blue + white.
its no doubt that animals (whom are mostly dichromatic) see the sky as a different colour. Honeybees and some birds can also see ultraviolet wavelengths of light, which i think is interesting but has nothing to do with you.
ok? joga want to take the babies one?
Capt
October 26th, 2005, 06:40 PM
ps. the reason for sunsets being coloured is that at dusk the sun is at a lower angle (with respect to the horizontal) which makes the light waves have to travel through even more atmosphere & experience more deflection. this results in lower wavelengths of visible light (ie: orange, red, yellow, etc) reaching your eyes and changes the colour of the sky that you see.

Sure.
CAPT: where do babies come from?
Well, see, after a guy and a girl hook up, and realize that the condom broke, the chick usually ends up knocked up. So, she carries around this kid for nine months that she bitches about because the guy wants nothing to do with her, won't return her calls, and doesn't understand why she wants to get married. So, she moves to her parents' house in Ohio and gets ready to have the child. Once the process starts, her water breaks. She is in an extreme amount of pain. Her dad rushes her to the hospital, where she proceeds to have contractions. She's screaming, sweating, and generally bitchy. The baby slides out of the uterus, past the cervix, through the vaginal canal, and finally out. From there, the baby is ugly, blue, and covered in amniotic fluid. The nurse washes it off, slaps it on the ass, and puts eye drops in the baby's eyes to assure that it won't catch gonarrhea from the mother, who is a whore. Then, the mother's new "friend," who happens to be the washed-up mechanic she dated in high school, takes mom and baby home in his 1985 Trans-Am, and they live, in a double-wide, happily ever after.
