Katrina exposed serious problems in our response capability at all levels of government and to the extent the federal government didn't fully do its job right, I take responsibility

You think Bush will resign?

Cheney. :ohnoes:

It can get worse.

He'll never resign.

I can't believe he stood up and took the blame. It's convenient, because it's not like he has another election to go through, but still, it's more than he's ever done as far as admitting he was wrong. Wierd. Well, that's a respectful thing to do, I guess...

it's all fine and dandy that bush stood up and took the blame (cause he should), but i don't see anyone lambasting the stupid louisiana government. it's almost like they're pointing fingers at the feds so that people take their rage out on them, but they share just as much blame for not preparing well enough.

I agree. While Bush shares a lot of the burden here, the levees have been a concern for much longer than Bush has been in office. To blame him for all of that is bullshit. The Louisiana government certainly didn't seem to be losing sleep over it, so a lack of urgency on their part shows negligence as well.

They also know their city very well. They know the residents, and know that it has a large population of poverty or below-poverty level citizens. To assume that all of those people had the means or the time to get out of the city when given a 72-hour notice, or however long it was, was not enough. Why didn't they pull all of the school buses and city buses and fill them with people before the storm hit?

That is all stuff that should have been taken care of by Louisiana and New Orleans jurisdictions...and they definitely dropped the ball.

yep. another thing that i forgot to mention was a clip they had shown on the daily show. i can't recall exactly who was asking the questions, but they were asking the mayor why a shitload of buses weren't used to evacuate the people earlier (then they showed an overhead shot of a whole parking lot of these buses submerged under water). he paused for a moment and said something like: "uh, that will be up for debate in the near future" or some stupid bullshit answer like that. wtf?

The LA governor was sidestepping that question concerning the parking lot of at least 50 buses on that Sunday talking head show. That was friggin' embarassing...as I said, the emergency response system needs to be revamped from the ground up. The whole bureaucratic system of the 50s ain't gonna cut it....

Okay, I'm done....

the daily show had a bunch of clips showing these assholes for what they really are. they even showed one of these assholes (i believe it was a representative from louisiana) saying "now's not the time for finger-pointing" and another clip where she was doing just that. :shame:
