Summary:
Chuck ‘The Iceman’ Liddell will look to avenge the first loss of his career and defend his UFC® light heavyweight crown in the process when he takes on challenger Jeremy Horn at UFC 54: Boiling Point this August 20th at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. Also on the card is a huge matchup between Randy ‘The Natural’ Couture and Mike Van Arsdale. Six additional bouts will complete the eight-fight card.

GRUDGE MATCH
Liddell (16-3-0) is fresh off his big win over previous light heavyweight champ Couture at UFC 52, but he’ll have one thing on his mind when facing Horn: revenge. That’s because Liddell’s first career loss (March 5, 1999, at UFC 19) came when Horn, a longtime veteran of mixed martial arts with a record of 85-13-5, executed a first-round arm triangle choke on the future champion. So UFC 54 provides a chance for Liddell to wipe the slate clean against his old nemesis. But Horn’s well-rounded skills and versatility will present a tough challenge for the champ in what should be a match for the ages.

As much as Chuck Liddell is a fucking amazing fighter, this jeremy horn guy has a a record that u cant really complain about 85 wins and hes only 29...... where as liddell is 35......... fresh from his last win over randy couture he seems to b at his best........... even more so after the fight before against Tito Ortiz............ any1 else lookin 4ward to it?

THE REBOUND
Couture (13-7-0)--the only man to win UFC titles in two separate weight classes-- is looking to climb his way back into title contention in the light heavyweight division. ‘The Natural’ is one of the most popular figures fighting in the UFC today. He’ll have his hands full with Van Arsdale (8-1-0), a world-class wrestler and athlete who hasn’t lost in almost seven years

I dont like MMA. I know it sounds :gaytard:, but I think its too violent. Put a pair of gloves on and have a good lold fashioned boxing match and it feels much more civilized to me. :shrug2:

fair call.......... i enjoy the fact that it is mixed ma...... get 2 see some interesting combination.......... i've done a little muay thai and thats a big influence on most mma fighters....... watchin them from a techincal perspective is brilliant..... some of the fighters are sluggers but when u get a interesting fighter like Genki Sudo ( a lightweight) who beats butterbean in a overly long fight which Sudo won by submission it cant b beaten. I know that the point of martial arts is to disarm and hurt but when u get 2 equally good fighters its always a good fight..... i do think that b4 they changed the rules it was more of a bloodfest.... but i think the introduction of weight-classes and rounds rather than one fight makes the sport a lot more watchable.

I watched another MMA series on PPV a couple of months ago. I cant think of the name right now, but I liked it alot better than UFC. UFC seems too ghetto to me.

I personaly think that UFC is one of the best. but i do watch a lot of K1 and Pride as well....... K1 is good as their is no floor game....... but sometimes it can b a bit boring tho (but saying that i sometimes get bored watchin too much ground work), Pride can get pretty damn bloody..........

Pride is the one I was thinking of. It felt more professional. Budokan also. Just my opinion.

Pride actually has more money that UFC, its a much more world wide competition, there is a film about a pride fighter (although he has done some UFC as well)...... his name is Mark "the hammer" Coleman and the film is called The Smashing Machine..... really good... it goes into the 1st big pride event back in 2000 which he won...... helluva fighter tho.....

hell yeah...... all the fights were fuckin good.... i was a bit disapointed that jeremy horn quit.... but is was in his interest safety wise....... so it was a fair call...... i had no doubt that liddell was gonna win!..... Sylvia is one helluva fighter........ i liked the fact that most of the wins were true wins...... they really took control of the fight....... and thats what its all about..... i think that diego sanchez is a hot contender for the title..... he needs some mroe experience but i reckon he will do it!

August 22nd, 2005, 01:05 PM
Yeah, I didnt expect Sanchez to win. As for Horn, I was rooting for him, but he was clearly out classed.

after seeing the way sanchez worked in ultimate fighter i kno he's good.... he dominated that match very well............ and im a liddell fan........ the iceman thru and thru......... helluva fighter............ back to sanchez... he just has such good ground skills and his takedowns are some of the hardest to avoid........

KenKill75
August 22nd, 2005, 01:29 PM
Sanchez definitely looked good, but im not sure he's well rounded enough to take on some of the more elite fighters. But anything is possible.

i kno what ur saying..... i do think that his takedown skill is unparralleld within his weightclass........ he does need to work on his stand-up..... but he is only 22 or something around that age....... he's got plenty of time to sort it out......

so what are people predictions......

As much as i want Griffen to win agaisnt Tito I think Tito will probably take it...

I think the Arlovsky/Sylvia fight is a tough call...... both very good fighters both with strong jaws and a lot of power......

Diaz is a fucking animal imo... and i think he will tear Sherk apart... i wont rule sherk out but i think he has very little chance.....

Monson is more expierenced but from what ive seen of Cruz he is a helluva fighter and very good at chokin people out he beat frank mir pretty damn easily........

The only other fight im really interested in is the Tanner/Levens fight....

i'd like Tanner to win it as i think hes a bit of a legend...... but it should b a good fight.... even tho Tanner is well apst his prime now......

i do think hughes will take it as he is at the top of his game where as gracie is past his "prime" (as in i by no way do i mean he cant fight).....

i actually think that every current champion within ufc deserve to b there n wont b knocked off....

although rich franklin is gonna b given a run for his money as ufc recently signed spider..... who is an amazing brazilian fighter.... versed in muay thai and gracie ju-jitsu,.....

im hopin that the talks with Quentin Rampage Jackson will work as he will give any fucker a run for thier money......

I like the submission fights a lot...lots of strategy to it. Should be a good one.

I'm quite a fan of Rich Franklin. The guy has definitely proven himself (he won last time after breaking his hand during the fight...that always deserves respect), but I'll be interested to see how he does against ....spider you say? Is he Pride, or just an MMA guy?

HAH...did you ever see the Liddell v. Jackson Pride fight? That was funny...chuck got pushed around like he didn't belong there. And that was supposed to be the UFC v. Pride bout (Dana White was pissed that Liddell didn't show up with his best game).

spider is a mma guys.... very well respected and only recently signed to ufc..... i like franklin which is why im happy bout him actually having some competion..... he needs it.... he could clean up any fighter in his weight class.....

the jackson vs liddell fight was good one tho.... liddell got outclassed in that fight... totally.... pride is a differnt ball game compared to ufc..... thats why gracie went over there...... more competition,........

jackson is a fuckin animal tho...... have u seen his most famous slam.... i cant remember who it was but they almost got him in an armbar from being in guard on the deck but jackson just lifted him over his head and slammed him back down........ and they say hughes likes to slam!

Where do you go about watching them live? I always get UFC on pay per view when they come around, but I've only been able to find Pride fights on FSN in the sort of 'fight review' type shows. That's where UFC/Dana White wins....they have definitely made UFC a marketing giant. As long as it doesn't go the way of WWF, it's fine by me.

Anderson Silva: A New Contender Arrives in the UFC

By Thomas Gerbasi

UFC fans, meet your new favorite fighter.

“I have fought in Japan, England, and all over Brazil, and I’ve always wanted to fight in the US,” said the UFC’s newest signee, middleweight contender Anderson Silva. “I felt the UFC was the most well-known organization in the world and has some of the best middleweights. So I want to fight the best.”

Silva, for those who don’t know or who may just be new to the sport of mixed martial arts, is one of those fighters who, if you see him fight once, you’ll probably never forget him. A brilliant striker who fights with a competitive flair that borders on a mean streak, Silva will finally be making his UFC debut in 2006 after a nearly six year career that has seen him post a 15-4 MMA record.

“I feel that the UFC has done a lot for the sport of mixed martial arts all over the world,” said Silva from Brazil through manager / translator Ed Soares. “I’m very excited and proud to get in the cage and show the American fans who Anderson Silva is. I know they won’t be disappointed.”

And with a division filled with the likes of champion Rich Franklin and challengers Nate Marquardt, David Loiseau, Jeremy Horn, Evan Tanner, David Terrell, Chris Leben, and Mike Swick, the possibilities for intriguing matchups for the 31-year-old Silva are limitless.

“I feel the middleweight division is stacked, and I see myself fitting in right on top, wearing the belt,” said Silva.

That’s the confidence any top-flight fighter needs to be successful in this unforgiving game, and the Curitiba native has no shortage of it, having competed successfully around the globe in Cage Rage, Rumble on The Rock, Pride, Meca Vale Tudo, and Shooto. Perhaps even more helpful to the confidence of ‘The Spider’ is that in fights against athletes who have competed in the UFC since 2001, he holds an 8-0 mark, having defeated Mach Sakurai, Alex Stiebling, Carlos Newton, Jeremy Horn, Lee Murray, Jorge Rivera, Curtis Stout, and most recently, Tony Fryklund.

“I enjoy having an undefeated record against fighters who have competed in the UFC and I plan on keeping it that way,” said Silva. “I’m always confident when I fight, and I seem to be getting more and more confident every time I walk into the ring or cage. I have my sights set on getting the belt.”

That belt is currently held by Franklin, who not only owns a stellar 22-1 MMA record, but has also looked unstoppable in punishing victories over Evan Tanner, Nate Quarry, and David Loiseau. Silva admits that Franklin is a tough nut to crack, but he’s not shying away from the challenge either.

“I think Rich Franklin is a tough, well-rounded fighter,” said Silva. “My ultimate goal in the UFC is to fight for the title and win. If it happens to be Rich Franklin, great; but I’ll fight anybody who holds the belt.”

And though no date and opponent has been determined yet for Silva’s Stateside debut, the Brazilian bomber assures fight fans that when they do see him in the Octagon, it will be something to remember.

“The fans should expect an action-packed fight with plenty of excitement,” said Silva. “Every time I walk into the cage, I come to fight. So whoever the UFC puts in front of me, they’d better come prepared for a battle.”

it is more like ufc was when it started... ur allowed to kick when ur oppent is on the floor (kick to the head)

no weight class and a lot of the fighters r the enxt level up... my opinon changes more towards pride with each event i c.....

yeah.... without a doubt... check out pride ultimate knockouts vol 1... it has all the liddell fights in pride and the jackson slam im talkin about (along with bout 5 or sother damn good ones)

i think there r other in some of the older UFC threads that i made..........

u love it really!

That was quite a while ago, and back when I had PPV. Now I dont. And even then, I didnt enjoy the violence level.

Heh.....I tried to keep it ambiguous since you mentioned not seeing it live ( I thought).

It went exactly how I had hoped (well perhaps longer would have been better) but I wanted a Hughes domination. What a beast.

Man....that armbar that Hughes had him in.........Royce didn't tap simply because of pride...that sucker was hyperextended. I don't know...I guess you have to give him props for tolerating the pain.

I'm already looking forward to 61.... Arlovski will likely do what he should have done last time. What is Shamrock thinking? Tito is going to work him. He is such a cocky prick...I hate to see him win....but he is just going to stomp. Poor old Kenny boy.

Gracie has NEVER been submitted..... i dont actually think he was in that much pain.... he is so fuckin bendy...... i was waiting for the arm to break admitedly..... but as a friend of mine pointed out.... he is one of the most flexible fighters around.......[/QUOTE]

Yea...I imagine there is no way to stretch your ligaments that keep your arm from hyperextending...that has to be natural. In any case, the fact that it DIDN'T pop is impressive.

I certainly hope so. Arlovski had been built up as such a god, it was shocking to see him lose. That's how striker's games go.

Awesome! I imagine that will be a blast. I certainly hope the trip works out for you so you get to go. I'm not in the position to spend money on a show like that, but I think it would be great to see a UFC match.
