:uhh: you're not talking to me right?? I'm not a Chargers fan...

I make fun of Eli like I do these other twits that enter the NFL, not having proven themselves professionally, demanding instead of elated they get to play a professional sport that too many others would give a left testicle to be a part of...

I couldn't care less about Eli... I'm only worried about the Chiefs... so I said 'go chargers because they have the broncos coming up and i want the broncos to LOSE... always LOSE God I HATE and DESPISE that fucking football team...

The 'retarded dance' comment is funny though :lmao:

well, since this is about the third time you've made moaning comments about Eli being too big for his britches, and in this latest one you added the magic words "Go Chargers!" at the bottom, I didn't think it was TOO unreasonable to assume you supported them? After all, you know, that WAS where Eli was drafted and kicked up his fuss; and since you kept bringing it up...

I love how the fans were getting really pissed off at McMahon so they put Koy Detmer on and what I think was his first throw (maybe not, certainly one of them) was yet another interception. As Madden said on the commentary though, the receivers didn't help him much...

Is this joke appalling? Yes.
Should you groan rather than laugh at it? Yes.
Could I resist posting it? No.

A kid goes to school one day wearing a Pittsburgh Steelers jersey. As the boy is walking to class, a teacher stops him. The teacher asks him, "are you a Steelers fan?" The boy nods. The teacher then asked, "well, why are you a Steelers fan?" The boy replied with, "Because both my parents are Steelers fans." The teacher is rather annoyed with his answer and says, "You know, it's not good to imitate your parents 100%. I mean, what if your dad was a drug dealer and your mom was a hooker?" The little boy smiled and replied, "Then I'd be an Eagles fan."

well, you know, the Rams right now aren't really a particularly appealing team, lol. You could say the same about the Steelers I guess, but they sure give you their fair share of heart in mouth moments and nutty calls.

if you enjoy soccer, who are your favorite teams? do you fancy england's chances next year at the WC?

Norwich City, because they're the team from where I originally came from... well, the nearest team anyway. They're in the "Championship", which is the second division in England. Out of teams that actually are successful, I quite like Liverpool because they're not as obnoxious as Man Utd or Arsenal (those managers, fucking hell :rage:...) and they haven't just thrown the wallet at problems like Chelsea... need a salary cap in soccer. I don't fancy England's chances because though the side is filled with big names, they dont work that well together, and Sven doesn't have the balls to take off a big name if they're playing badly. We'll get to the quarters or the semis but there's no way we're winning the thing.

I prefer watching "gridiron" nowadays anyway. Much smarter game. Most "football" games I see bore me to tears; I guess that because possession isn't sacrosanct there is no stigma attached to turnovers like there is in American Football and Rugby (which is my favourite Britihs sport)

it's enough of a challenge staying up for the NFL on 5, lol. I usually catch the first half of SNF and MNF and tape the rest; though I stayed up all the way through for Steelers-Ravens and Steelers-Colts, for obvious reasons (though we only got SNF recently so missed a couple of games I'd have liked to have seen, not just Pittsburgh). They don't have baseball on often and when they do it's like, an all night thing. I sometimes try to catch a bit of it on NASN when I'm at my family home but we don't subscribe so I can only catch a half hour or so. I don't find it that appealing tbh; I think I just need to know the rules better. It just comes with familiarity, I think. I don't think it can be considered too boring for most british people, since we're the country that invented Cricket... though that's been shortening itself for a while to stop being so dull. And yeah, most British people don't know shit about any of the american sports, including football, most people find it far too boring, and because they don't know what's going on, they don't understand the stop-start nature of it, and that prevents them really getting into it, I think. I always found it intriguing but it was only once I figured out 90% of the rules that I was able to enjoy watching a live game (they used to do a repeat showing of the SNF game the following day on Sky but with all the breaks between plays taken out)

Yes, KC plays the Chargers this week, and the Bengals next week... If the Steelers lose a game, and KC wins both, they still make the playoffs, which I'm wondering if they deserve at this point...
BUT...

Giants love to turn an uplifting season into a disspointment, don't they? Better start playing better.

At least the Pats didn't shut out the Jets.

And my 12-2 fantasy team (that was autodrafted, may i add) lost 91-93 as well..tiki just had to get 94 points on the bye week..

When he did that dive I could so see him rolling over clutching his knee or something, I know it put the capper on but it looked so ugly, lol.

After a nice run of three, a good time for Big Ben to start throwing interceptions again... leave it to the Bus in short yardage, fine, but 7-16 with two picks is not what you want as a lead in to the playoffs...

Brunell had a day like Big Ben. 9-25 with an INT. Most of their throws were high which is what happens when the QB isn't 100% healthy. Both of them should be a good bit better come next week. NFL.com is saying that the Skins and Steelers are the most dangerous 6 seeds in history.

Mainly 'cause they're both on monstrous runs at the moment... and with QBs not fully fit too. Now if the Steelers can get a game out of Roth like they did LAST TIME against Cincinnati - minus the INTs - and a game out of Willie Parker like they did the FIRST TIME against Cincy... then we're talking. Skins-Bucs should be pretty heated, maybe even more so, especially given how the game ended out last time...

So why let Smith get the ball so much? New York's secondary was absolutely gutted - as in torn to shreds - through the whole season by injuries and today by Steve Smith.

Now, come on Pittsburgh. Don't let them get into a shootout. You already took out Carson. Go on.

ah, 'tis the truth. Not his fault though. He's still flattening people to this day, and I quote the guy on the Cincinnati radio station last night: "The Bus: Genetic Freak Of Nature. How can a guy close to 34, at that size, rip off moves like that and fly for 25 yards?". Cowher is 9-9 in the playoffs, soon to become 9-10; always seems to be there-or-thereabouts but never THERE.

breastnorton

i think that loss in 96 to the Cowboys was Cowher's one true shot

but the guy's been around for a hell of a long time considering how quickly nfl coaches get fired or just quit, really impressive how long he's been there and had good teams, just not quite the best

they'd have a good shot of being in the super bowl if they were from the nfc, but the colts patriots and broncos might all be better than the steelers

MojoFearsSatan
January 9th, 2006, 03:46 PM
no, they pretty much ARE better than the Steelers. Never ever bet against the Pats in January, and Colts are definitely a better, more rounded side. Broncos I haven't been able to see much of this year since they're hardly on UK TV so I can't really judge them properly. I also think Pittsburgh has a tradition of trusting coaches, ha. Cowher's been there since, what, '92? Then remember just how long Chuck Noll was there before him... they've had two coaches in the last thirty years or something crazy like that.

i wasn't saying that i'm not excited when a player gets into his contract year because either a.) he'll break out or b.) he'll get traded (and maybe land a player that pans out).

what i was complaining about was the type of attitude some players have where they play well their contract year, get the big deal, then settle back into underperforming again.

I mean, it's not like a 47 yard field goal is a given for any team, let alone with that pressure! They'll probably paint Mike Vanderjagt as the villain of the piece for missing that, but really, if Peyton had his thinking cap on he could have got them a guaranteed 3 points and run the clock down to the point where he could get the touchdown or have a near guaranteed, far shorter field goal and not give the steelers a chance to get back...

Steve Young and John Elway went ages without getting a ring, but who wouldn't consider them two of the best QB's of all time? And Marino never got a ring, yet he's still top 5 all time in terms of pure passing.

Manning, I think, has a problem winning big games. Stay with me a second here. Greg would know, he never beat Florida. Ever. Granted, the offense of the Vols at the time wasn't the best, at least not at receiver. He had a couple guys in his senior year who could catch the ball, but it was a running offense at the time. But Manning never beat the Gaytors, and the Vols weren't even close in most of those games. Manning's last game at Tennessee was against Nebraska in the Orange Bowl. The Vols were smoked and Manning had a rough game.

Then he goes to the Colts. We all know what's happened there. He's put up insane numbers in the regular season only to fold in the playoffs.

I'm not sure he'll ever win a Super Bowl or even make it to one (this was probably his best shot), but who here, honestly, would take Tom Brady over Peyton Manning?

Plus, those guys were real team leaders. Manning doesn't seem that way to me. Yesterday after the game was a perfect example. What's the first thing out of his mouth? He blames his o-line. Fucking lame. You don't do that, ever.

This is precisely my argument over why I would pick Brady, and don't jump on me just because I'm a Pats fan. He did it with far less unproven talent surrounding him the first time around. I don't understand why so much emphasis is put on numbers. Everybody's more impressed with how pretty Manning looks throwing those deep passes than they are with actually winning a Super Bowl title, which the last time I checked, is the goal every year, right? Yes, Manning has got a ton of talent, but what he lacks is guts and if you don't have that, no way will you ever win. Elway, Young, and Marino had the killer instinct that Manning doesn't have. They never gave up. Manning's a head-case and he gets far too rattled and he can't rebound when the chips are down. Yesterday, the damn refs did all they could to give that game to him and he and the rest of them still couldn't get it done.

Actually, the Patriots are a far more talented team (in the three years that they won) then the Colts have ever been up until this year. Neither team made it to the AFC title game though.

The Patriots were a team built around giving up 14 or fewer points, they have and have had the defense to get it done and one of the best defensive minds coaching them. That's something the Colts have never had and their defense this year, while better, isn't good yet. Hell, the Rams put up quite a few points on them this year and the Rams suck.

It's hard to compare Manning and Brady really. Brady likes 10 yard passes and screens while Manning enjoys 20-30 yard passes over the middle and skinny posts. Manning calls all his own plays, Brady has relied on great play calling by great coaches (look at what those coaches are doing now, very good minds). It's a whole different game they play.

I'll put it this way, Trent Dilfer won a Super Bowl. I'm not saying Brady isn't good, but he's had a hell of a lot more talent around him on offense and defense than most QB's, Manning included.

I do agree about the defense, but the offense had some receivers nobody had even heard of the first time around, and we had Antowain Smith at RB, but Dillon was a definite upgrade. And why didn't they move Harrison all over the field? He became predictable in that game. Again, bad play-calling. Maybe the Colts need to have a coordinator calling the offense.

Still, it's the complete package that makes a great quarterback. Young, Marino, Elway, and Brady have leadership qualities that Manning seems to lack. A perfect example was Manning's throwing his o-line under the bus in the postgame conference yesterday. That was lame. I heard that shit on the radio on the way home and it pissed me off and took away what respect, if any, I had for him. Yeah, Marino used to whine a little, too, but he was more complaining about personnel in general.

Brady isn't pretty, but he gets it done, and I'd take that over Manning and his stats any day.

"I'm trying to be a good teammate here … let's just say we had some problems with protection."

Is that all he said? If so, he could have been quite a bit more harsh and still been ok in my book.

Did you hear Lance Armstrong talking about his team after Stage 8 in this past year's Tour de France? Probably not, but I'll summarize "these guys sucked today on a stage that featured some very short small climbs and there's no way we win in the mountains if they can't ride better". It was a bit more harsh than that but they pulled through for the guy and in the first mountain stage tore everyone else apart and Lance won the Tour on that stage alone.

Manning's line was pathetic yesterday, his comments weren't out of line in my opinion. It's a way of saying, "ok, next year you need to improve a lot or you won't be here". Manning had very little time all game, and that was with no blitz or one guy on a dog for a lot of it. If an oline can't handle 5 rushers, then they suck and shouldn't have their feelings hurt if someone, even their own QB, tells them so.

I think they were out of line, given that the season was now OVER and nothing good was going to come out of that except for Manning trying to cover his ass. Lance Armstrong still had a race to run, but I still think it's classless to dis the team in public. Take it up in the locker room, or wherever the cyclists finish up.

And it wasn't all the o-line's fault. I don't care how bad they played, you don't dis your team in public like that, after they just lost. You want to take that up with management about getting better personnel next year, fine, but that type of talk does nothing to engender loyalty from your teammates. It's a slap in the face, and those guys won't like it and they will file that away. It does nothing to solidify the team.

And if he was so "trying to be a good teammate," then he shouldn't have singled anyone out and just said they all played poorly and leave it at that. I didn't exactly hear him say he sucked, but then, again, maybe he did say it and they didn't play that on the radio. There were a number of occasions when he DID have time to make a play and he fucked up. And a couple of those sacks could have been avoided. He's always looking for the big play, rather than trying to move the ball down the field.

I think pointing out faults in public is a way to strengthen your team. I would assume half or more of that line is under contract for next year, so a little criticism now should help them prepare for next year. If a guy can't take those comments as constructive criticism, I wouldn't want him on my team.

I don't think there are very many guys in the NFL who will just let a DE blindside Manning next year just because of those comments. O linemen make money by protecting the QB, and if they let in a ton of sacks, they won't earn a good contract next time out.

But I still don't think "we had some problems with protection" isn't that bad a comment, really. Sure it's pointing out the obvious but I don't think he placed the loss entirely on the line.

Lance did mention in that same interview that he and the team would need to have a long talk over dinner that night and that things would have to change. But he did far worse than Manning. I can only catch whatever brief clips they put on "Endzone", which is a weekly roundup show they have on Sky Sports 3; they have 2 games on Sky Sports X on Sunday nights, but I don't have Sky at my house at uni, only at my holiday address. We get Sunday Night Football and Monday Night Football on Channel 5 during the regular season, and highlights of the playoffs on ITV, and all three (ITV, Channel 5 and Sky Sports) run the superbowl. Last year we had it on in the bar in the hall, and all these people came along to see it who had no idea about the game; the bar was packed at kickoff, by the end there was me and my mate and 2 other people in there. Mind you, it was like, 4am and our lectures started the next day.

And let's be honest, that was one of the worst games protection wise that's been played in a while. Manning was under pressure then entire game. You can't stay in the pocket and make great passes when you can't even complete a five step drop.

I'll agree that the QB is the leader of the team, but giving 21 points as early as they did didn't help out either. 21 points is too many in the playoffs, Manning had nothing to do with that.

Die. We left 17 points on the field. Losing that game the way we did kills me. Missed chip-shot FG. Bogus offensive PI call on Farris that would have been a TD. Rogers missing a certain pick-six on the 'Hawks first TD drive. This one stings. We had all the momentum after the "MVP" got KTFO and if Rogers makes that pick, there's no doubt in my mind that we go on to win handily. Unfortunately, the injuries finally caught up to us. Between Portis being banged up, and our depleted secondary, my boys just didn't have the horses to finish the job. I will say this.........I am psyched about next year. Gibbs is building a champion and restoring this franchise for the long haul.

HTTR

Edit: I don't care what kind of numbers Alexander puts up in the regular season, he's one of the softest players in the NFL. There's a reason the Seahags were trying to dump him on the Skins before we traded for Portis.

Yea, I've been very impressed by Skins over the last few weeks, though to be really successful I think they'll need more offense; they only have two receiving threats, really, Cooley and Moss, plus Portis... mind you, Carolina have shown us just how far a team can go with just ONE offensive weapon.
