BEREA, Ohio -- If LeBron James truly believes he can help the Cleveland Browns, coach Eric Mangini has an orange helmet waiting for him.

AFC North blog

Walker ESPN.com's James Walker writes about all things AFC North in his division blog.

• Blog network: NFL Nation

"I think he should come on down," Mangini said.

The Cavaliers superstar and reigning MVP was an All-State wide receiver in high school.

"If I put all my time and commitment into it, if I dedicated myself to the game of football, I could be really good," he said Tuesday night, "no matter what team I was on."

Mangini agreed, calling James "a freak athletically" and said the 6-foot-8, 260-pounder could be dangerous at tight end, wide receiver or even outside linebacker.

Browns nose tackle Shaun Rogers said it would be difficult for any athlete, even one as great as James, to step into the NFL and be able to handle the punishment.

James was an All-Ohio wide receiver at St. Vincent-St. Mary High School before quitting football after his junior year to focus on basketball. But he still follows the game closely and believes he could have been a hybrid tight end/receiver in the mold of San Diego's Antonio Gates or Atlanta's Tony Gonzalez.

Gates, who played basketball in college and not football, is listed at 6-foot-4 and 260 pounds. James is listed at 6-8 and 250 pounds.

"They're not always lined up next to the tackle," James said. "Sometimes they go against strong safeties and linebackers. It's tough to match up with those guys because they're so athletic."

James filmed a commercial last year for an insurance company that depicted him in a No. 23 Browns jersey with "LeBron" stitched across the back.

He has no serious plans of returning to football, but said playing the two sports takes entirely different types of stamina.

"I'd be in football shape during football season, then I'd go to basketball and feel like I was out of shape," he said. "It's totally different. And another thing you have to get used to is getting hit again."

sorry, but LBJ already has his hands full polishing one turd at a time.

jazz
November 20th, 2009, 11:46 AM
that's the thing with the dolphins, they're good enough at this point to keep up with the elites, but not enough to win. we need to add a #1 receiver, a good set of safeties, and a TE that can actually catch before we'll be beating those teams.

we're getting there...slowly though. :byrche:

I find it odd how Priest Holmes was the man in KC for a while in their playoff runs then comes in LJ out of no where, starts but only very few seasons and he's on the brink of not only surpassing Priest Holmes' franchise records, but to make an all-new franchise leading rushing record of his own.

Really odd. LJ came and went like a flash and he did all that...wow.

5:21 pm QB Mark Sanchez outlined the specifics of what Yankees manager Joe Girardi taught him."(How to) hook my leg, because I wear that brace on my left leg so you don’t want to hook that leg into the ground because it might get stuck."

i don't know what it is, but everyone has that one team they can never seem to beat...ours is the texans. it always seems to end the same way too...a last-minute texans drive and them running a qb sneak to win it.

fuck the Colts! They fuck us by handing us the most frustrating of losses. Now they go and rest Manning to give the Jets a better playoff shot than us. Had they simply knocked them out, we'd only have to root for either the Ravens or Broncos to go down next Sunday....but noooo...Pudge belly Ryan gets what he wished for Christmas, Colts starters sit out. Now if the Jets win Sunday...they're in.

Yeah. I understand the point of minimizing injuries by reducing the amount of gametime that starters see in otherwise meaningless games, but I still think you should play every game with the same mindset. I think sticking to your daily routine is apt to get better overall results.

Yeah, Chiefs came through for the Texans. We just needed the Raiders too as well but they couldn't get the job done. No thanks to the Colts, we still needed the Jets to be knocked out.

If the colts would have just beat the Jets last week to remain undefeated, we'd be in post-season as the Chiefs helped us out.

I don't have a problem with the players. But the organization can kiss my ass.

First of all major fucking lulz @ the Browns. They get more tarded by each players' situation. Winslow becomes the topic of discussion...."oh him....yeah, let's get rid of him.". The same thing happens with Braylon....now Cribbs? Are you fucking stupid....Cribbs was lights out a-fucking-mazing!

I say the Bears seek to get him. Although, after acquiring Cutler...I dont' know if they could afford to agressively seek Cribbs.

Anyway...back to Indy. I'm with Byrche. Don't think I'd ever feel this way with my Texans but I understand what's gotten Byrche to feel this way. Indy didn't sit out its starters in a say....30-7 lead. It didn't rest its starters in a game they were losing 30-7 either. They did it in a game the Dolts were leading by what....I think a measely 6 points or so. That's so shitty.

The Dolts say all they wanted was to get the most consecutive regular season wins. But man...that's so fucking shitty! Look...you sit back and think abot it....do you ever say, "Hmmm I wonder who had the most consecutive regular season wins in the 90s?" You don't. No one gives a shit about that. You won't give a shit about how the Colts got it in 2009 in another 10 years from now.

What folks do wonder and think about is who had the perfect season. The '72 Dolphins are still spoken of. The Patriots will be spoken of. The Colts had a shot at it....easily and they let it slip away. I hope they don't even make it to the Super Bowl.
