Jets upset about home games on Jewish holidays (http://msn.foxsports.com/nfl/story/9464642/Jets-upset-about-home-games-on-Jewish-holidays/?gt1=39002)
FLORHAM PARK, N.J. (AP) - The New York Jets, upset about being scheduled for home games on consecutive Sundays in direct conflict with Jewish holidays, sent NFL commissioner Roger Goodell a letter Thursday asking that one of the game times be changed.
The Jets' home opener is Week 2 against New England at 1 p.m. on Sept. 20, which falls during Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year. New York then plays Tennessee at 4:15 p.m. the following Sunday, with Yom Kippur, the Jewish day of atonement, beginning at sundown.
In the letter to Goodell, owner Woody Johnson suggested the game against the Titans be changed to a 1 p.m. start to give Jewish fans time to arrive home before sundown.
"I am extremely disappointed with the league's decision to schedule us to play at home on consecutive Sundays that are in direct conflict with the Jewish High Holy Days," Johnson wrote. "There has long been an understanding that neither the Jets nor the Giants fans should have to bear completely the brunt of this issue since we are in the largest Jewish market in the country."
Jets officials called the league offices first on Wednesday to express their concern, and Johnson followed with a formal letter Thursday.
"We were not contacted prior to this decision," Johnson said. "We are flexible and would have been more than happy to work with the league to accommodate as many of our fans as possible."
Brian McCarthy, the NFL's vice president of corporate communications, said the league received the letter and was reviewing it.
The Giants are on the road for both weeks, with games at Dallas at 8:20 p.m. in Week 2, and at Tampa, Fla., at 1 p.m. in Week 3.

Tough games to pick this week, straight up pick 'ems.
Cardinals @ Bears
Cowboys @ Eagles
Chargers @ Giants
Cardinals have been on a roll on the road, but after having laid an egg at home...they don't look so great. However...they did the same against 49ers, came back and won against a hot Jaguars squad in convincing fashion. They lost at home against the Colts badly and go on the road to the Giants and clobber them.
Will the trend continue with them going into Chicago after a bad loss at home? Arizona has nice corners and with pick-happy Cutler at the helm...the Cardinals might feast on them giving the Cardinals nice field position. On top of that...Chicago doesn't have true WRs while Arizona does, albeit...hindered from injuries.
The Cowboys, ehh. They haven't beaten anyone impressive IMO, 'cept for Atlanta. NFC East games on the road are as tough as they come. My gut tells me the Cowboys are who we thought they were and get roughed up by the Eagles.
Chargers/Giants....look at how pitiful the Giants have looked. But 4 straight? Can they lose 4 straight? That stat gives the Giants a chance cause their team sure as hell doesn't. Chargers lack of run defense against Giants stout run game, although granted...it hasn't been stout as of late. Giants porous pass defense lately against the explosive Chargers offense. Chargers aren't bad on special teams either, IMO. My gut tells me Chargers give the She-Men another L and N.Y. goes into the bye banged up and back strong again.
What say you?

hey...the Texan fan in me made me make the change. Plus...I had better picks than you. You said the Bears would beat the Cards and that the She-Men would bounce back against the Chargers. I got both of those right...
the Chargers one was pretty close, so that's half a chalk. The Cards one, I can definitely give to you.

Dude...same ol' song. Come at me with something different already. Back then...WHEN IN THE PLAYOFFS...(Texans no longer in the picture as season was over)...I would give my prediction.
Prediction and "rooting" are two totally different things. You're just bent out of shape cause I always root against your Steelers. You know why that is, due to back in the day of the Oilers/Steelers playoff rivalry.
Besides...I haven't predicted the Colts to win anyting in the playoffs for several years already. Hell...last time I did was when the Steelers took them out in Indianapolis when Vanderjagt missed the winning field goal.

Yeah...I'm with you. I'm pretty sure Harris is out of this game.
I pretty much leave it up to who has more playmakers.
As of now for the Bears its Cutler and Hester on special teams....it stops there.
For the 9ers, there's Willis, Davis, Gore, maybe Crabtree. But Willis and Gore play more a factor than Hester possibly could unless some freakish special teams plays happen.
that's kind of the equation I used for the Broncos/Steelers game. Steelers posess way more playmakers.

C'mon philly guy....gotta have more confidence than that... :hmmm:
There's a long list of injuries for your team, although not play hindering injuries. The way I look at it is that against the Giants...the Chargers didn't look nice at all. The last drive to win it was their sharpest.
Run game is subpar and bad even for the Chargers. I'm sure the Eagles can subdue their rushing attack. Then comes in blitzing, this week I think the Eagles are more successful. Rivers hardly imposed his will against a brittle Giants secondary and the Eagles' secondary is much better at this time. I don't have much respect for the Chargers defense. They did alright against the Giants but again, the Giants had been on a performance skid for several weeks.
The Eagles hardly ever lose back to back games. When the Eagles don't do well one week....they come back and fire on all cylinders.
However, the Chargers have a knack for getting their shit together after the midway point in the season.

I can also see Jackson being double covered all game long. Celek will have to carve up the #4 Chargers aerial D pretty much by himself and I don't think that's likely.
:hmm: I just might change that pick.
Thanks for the insight.
Who do you have coming away with the win between Patriots/Colts? Before long, those new coaches have to drop one. Couple that with the rookies at corners. I know the Colts have always adjusted extremely well to injuries, probably best than any other team...but man...eventually it's gotta give.

I dunno.. I am not impressed by either team really. Both teams are beating teams they should beat. I just don't think that the Pats aren't better than the Colts. If the Colts lose the game, it's because the Colts underperformed.
Da Rafsta
November 12th, 2009, 11:25 AM
The Colts didn't underperform. If anything...Houston should have had that win. Houston screwed itself up with penalties and that call by the ref of that fumble at the 2 yard line, overturning the initial call was bogus having no conclusive evidence. The missed field goal and all.
I just don't think the Colts have been firing on all cylinders as of late. I think the injuries are starting to show and in this big game....it shows big with an Indy loss.
The Pats you have to realize, they take what you give them. They don't lose easily. I think if the Pats finish as the Texans should have, the Pats take it.

not to say the dolphins are a bad team (i think we're a few players away from being on par with the top teams), but if ginn made that catch, we would have beaten the colts that night. i think the pats are the better overall team this year and they might eek this one out (i'll be rooting for the colts, of course).
