Biden booed at Eagles-Giants game
(CNN) – People sure to draw the ire of Philadelphia sports fans: Cowboys players. Supporters of any visiting team. Presidential running mates.
Weeks after Republican VP nominee Sarah Palin got a brutal greeting at the rink, football fans gave a similar reception to Vice President-elect Joe Biden.
As Eagles fans watched their team lose to the New York Giants Sunday night, a shot of Biden on the big screen elicited boos from the notoriously tough home crowd, the Associated Press reports.
Biden sat in Eagles owner Jeffrey Lurie's box, taking in the game during his first weekend off since Tuesday's election.
Sarah Palin was booed when she dropped the puck at the Philadelphia Flyers season opener in October. But Philadelphia is a heavily Democratic city, and Palin is not a Pennsylvania native. (Eagles fans also infamously threw snowballs at Santa Claus at a December 1968 game.)
Born in Scranton and now a resident of nearby Wilmington, Delaware, Biden calls himself an Eagles fan but emphasizes that his wife Jill, raised in the Philadelphia suburbs, is the real fan in the family.
"My wife is a die-hard Eagles fan, so we watch every Eagles game," Biden told reporters during a tour of the Pro Football Hall of Fame in September.
"I'm not allowed to say this," he added, whispering to the reporters, "but I also like the Giants."
So maybe it was the fact that Biden had no real allegiance to either team Sunday night that drew Philadelphians' ire, or perhaps it was simply the risk one takes attending a game in the City of Brotherly Love.
funny.

After a few weeks of the season, we were looking at that draft a couple of years ago and laughing at JaMarcus, saying how Trent Edwards is the real deal [one concussion put paid to THAT], and how Tyler Thigpen should NOT be in the NFL. But all of a sudden he seems to have clicked, worked out how to play QB in the pros.
And I like him. He's an underdog.
I don't like him as much as Kyle Orton, but then Kyle Orton is like the Quarterbacking equivalent of Prince - pure awesome on a pitch. That 'tache... oh Kyle...

http://www.encircling.us/go.php?url=http://www.local6.com/sports/18023226/detail.html
According to the newspaper, Romo offered to buy Doc a ticket to the movies when he saw the homeless man cashing in change at a Dallas theater. Doc allegedly initially declined the offer because he was supposed to pass out fliers for a local consignment store, but changed his mind once he recognized Romo.
Doc told the Morning News that he ran across the street and told the consignment store he wouldn't be able to work for them that day and then returned to the theater to see "Role Models" with the quarterback. When Doc entered the theater, Romo allegedly waved the man over to sit with him and his friend.

Coming at You! NFL to Broadcast Game in 3-D
With sports fans still getting used to their high-definition television sets, the National Football League is already thinking ahead to the next potential upgrade: 3-D.
On Dec. 4, a game between the San Diego Chargers and the Oakland Raiders at Qualcomm Stadium in San Diego will be broadcast live in 3-D to theaters in Los Angeles, New York and Boston.
It is a preliminary step on what is likely a long road to any regular 3-D broadcasts of football games.
The idea is a "proof of concept," says Howard Katz, NFL senior vice president of broadcasting and media operations. "We want to demonstrate this and let people get excited about it and see what the future holds."
The several hundred guests at the three participating theaters Dec. 4 will include representatives from the NFL's broadcasting partners and from consumer-electronics companies.
Burbank, Calif.-based 3ality Digital LLC will shoot the game with special cameras and transmit it to a satellite. Thomson SA's Technicolor Digital Cinema is providing the satellite services and digital downlink to each theater, and Real D 3D Inc. will power the display in the theaters.
This isn't the first time the NFL has participated in a 3-D experiment. In 2004, a predecessor company to 3ality filmed the Super Bowl between the New England Patriots and the Carolina Panthers.
When Sandy Climan, 3ality's chief executive officer, shows the footage, "people crouch down to catch the ball," he says. "It's as if the ball is coming into your arms."

you could have played in Acapulco, Buenos Aires, Adelaide, Sentul, or anywhere as a home game last year and you'd have still lost. The Bills felt they lost out by being in Toronto. I feel they lost out by sucking, and by having JP Losman underthrowing fade patterns to receivers who aren't tall enough to go get it.

The Jets have stunk it up against the worst division in football, the NFC West. They're 0-4 against that division, if I'm not mistaken. The Jets are the Jeckyll/Hide of the league. One moment they look like a dominant force, at others....they look as fierce as a bunny wabbit. :pancake:

yeah, but i'm sure the jets will be looking at the game we played against the pats and use their tactic to spread us out and attack our achilles' heel - our questionable secondary. i hope we come up with something to counter because i'm sure that's where they will come at us.
plus, another thing that makes me not as hopeful as some is that they just came off a pretty bad loss to seattle, they're playing at home (w/ their weather) in the last game of the year, and favre is the kind of qb that thrives on pressure games...and this is certainly one of them.
There's a lot of dissension among the GM, the coach, the players and who knows who else. It's all sorts of fucked up ridiculous. And I know even despite that (coupled with their injuries) they are still capable of playing much better than they have been.
It seems like they just gave up and shit like that irritates the piss out of me.
:shame: hey, look at the bright side...at least you're not the detroit lions.
I predict the 'phins to be victorious.
:sigh:

The Lions lost to the Green Bay Packers 31-21 on Sunday, making them the first team to go winless through a 16-game season. The 1976 expansion Tampa Bay Buccaneers (0-14) were the last NFL team to complete a season without a victory.
The Lions haven’t won since Dec. 23, 2007, actually, when they beat Kansas City. Green Bay is where this woeful streak began at the end of last season. Since then, the Lions have lost 17 straight and have been outscored 551-281.

About Parcells. They need to get off his ass. He doesn't need to say or prove shit. Everyone knows what he's about, what he's capable of, how great he's been for this league and some franchices and the development of other NFL coaches, Super Bowl coaches at that.
He's turned that franchise around, the Dolphins that is. If he wishes to leave after a year, that's his deal and shouldn't be given shit about it. He's really up in age, has dealt with shenanigans from far too many in his time. He's a business man now. He says that in order to win it's got to be about team. It's what he's gathered in his long experience through many years and successes. He doesn't have time to be as passionate about football and be loyal to the point that money's no issue. His clock's ticking, his advice is extremely valuable, he' proven his worth...............screw these guys that question his motives. He's got to make his money like a business man should. If Miami wishes to not meet others' offers, then perhaps the Dolphins don't value his counceling as much as the next guy. Is that Parcells' bad? I don't think so.
IMO, if he was younger.............then he'd open up and shoot down these rumors cause I know then that he would be loyal to his ball club. But now? They have coaches for that. Parcells is a counselor.
That's my two cents. It's incredible what he's done. Not anyone posesses the knowledge he has and his uncanny ability of producing speedy development and success. He left Dallas saying practically that is was worthless. The situation there was beyond him....he just couldn't do it. People questioned him, in came Phillips......looked like Dallas would be crowned Champs.......yeah right, looks like Parcells was right again.

Couldn't you have beaten Baltimore though? I mean, really? With Ben concussed and the O-line playing as it has done I can't say I even trust our offense against the Chargers' rank pass D at the moment, especially after they limited Peyton Manning.. We put up a rather modest 11 points on them last time (although we had a touchdown on defense nullified by a crap call).

:thehand: Haven't rooted them in the PLAYOFFS in many years. I didn't even root for them that year they went to the Superbowl. Those years are over. Only reason, like I've explained a million times before.......I'd root for them those 3 or so years cause the Texans weren't a threat by any means and in those years the Colts were more explosive then they are now, thus found them exciting to watch.....from a football standpoint. There was no rivalry whatsoever. One's starting up with them, especially after this season.....in both games that were ours for the taking....if it weren't for Rosenchoker giftwrapping turnovers and the win for the taking to them.
Still doesn't change that I hope the Steelers choke on it. I'm not a hater because of their success. I know they're talented.....I still have bad blood against them.

I do hate my division. Like I said then and say now.....you need history to have hatred and bad blood in a division. The Texans were new and a baby team needing to learn to crawl, needing build up. They're maturing.....getting some stars on the team. Okay....NOW it's time for some beef. Need some playoff football in the air here in Houston. Thus far it's only been pollutant. :yuck:

Yeah, Indy wasn't anywhere near as good to make the playoffs this year. They got help by other teams, including Houston in a huge way, by losing games to Indy moreso than Indy actually winning them.

Indeed. Losing Plaxico did them in, too, and that left them with a more one-dimensional offense.

Listen, I understand where you're coming from but it could very well have worked the other way around. It'll work for you or against you and this time it just so happened to work against the Titans and in favor of the Ravens.
I wonder what your stance would be had a call like that helped the Titans. Would you be singing a different tune?
I feel as though folks need to take it easy on the refs. In this particular instance, the ref needs to look at the ball, look back up to the clock and actually see zero on there, then look back down at the ball once more and see whether it's been lifted off the floor......then after having done all this, reach out for the flag and throw it while blowing the whistle. I feel that all that takes longer than a second.....even if it's by half a second.
Sure, it should have costed the Ravens....but unfortunately for the Titans it was a longer second than it should have been.

Indy already has Dungy's replacement. Jim Caldwell is taking over. Cowher is holding out till 2010 when he can take over for Jim Zorn and bring in a real GM to replace the walking void that is Vinny Cerratto.

Cowher will take the Carolina Job after John Fox gets ousted after next season.. He lives in NC and he'll be close to home... Redskins would be bad because his ego won't allow Dan Snyder to dictate what he wants to him.

Hmm. Why the Redskins? Connection?
Just my (and most Skins fans) pipe dream but it does have legs. Snyder met with Cowher last year after Gibbs retired. Cowher told him he wasn't interested in returning to coaching yet. But when he does return he's going to demand big money ($10 million/year?) and total control of the team. Fast forward a week and Snyder makes the odd decision to hire Jim Zorn as HC after hiring him as OC. He also promotes Vinny to Vice President of Football Operations giving him total control of the team. They were both given a window of 2 years to get things done.......and if the 2nd half collapse is any indication of what is to come then I doubt they are around for the 2010 season. Cowher just signed a 1 year extension with CBS making a return to coaching in 2010 all the more likely.
I could easily see the Skins folding in 2009 under Zorn......it's fairly obvious he lost control of the locker room in the 2nd half of the season. He's thrown the players under the bus numerous times always blaming a loss on poor execution rather than poor coaching and scheme. But anyone watching could see that after the 6-2 start they became very predictable on offense.
In all likelyhood Zorn and Cerratto go bye bye after next season and I could see Snyder throwing $10 million/year at Cowher and letting him bring in his own GM to run the show. Maybe we'll get lucky and he'll bring Russ Grimm along to be the OC. I just don't see us being successful under Zorn. I think he's better suited to the college ranks if he wants to be a HC. It doesn't help that I detest the WCO.

Snyder has already shown he's willing to give up control of the team to a coach with serious clout. He did it with Gibbs and he would do it with Cowher. Snyder learned alot from Gibbs. DC isn't that far from NC and his daughter is in NYC now which would put the Washington right in the middle. It doesn't hurt that NC is still primarily Redskins country either. :eee:

Mayor Luke Ravenstahl has asked to be known as Luke Steelerstahl — at least for this week.
"On behalf of the Steelers Nation, I've decided to remove the word 'Ravens' from my name just like the Steelers will remove them from the AFC Championship," he told the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, in regards to the upcoming playoff game against the Baltimore Ravens.
Ravenstahl began the process of a legal name change, but his paperwork has not gone through because it wasn't complete. The civil court in Pittsburgh also said it didn't receive the required $108 check to process the request, the Post-Gazette said.

"you're robbing the fans of football! ROBBING THE FANS OF THE FOOTBALL!"
You know what, Ray, I don't think anybody in Heinz Field cared that they'd been "robbed of football" by changing that call. Shit like that happens, I didn't catch Albert Haynesworth doing a ten minute rant about how the fans were robbed by Flacco getting an extra second to snap the ball. We get it, you felt like you were conned by the referees, no need to repeat it 100 times.
Besides, dodgy call though it may have been, you're hardly an objective opinion on the matter, Raymond.
