Yeah, as if Vick was actually a good QB
Oh...c'mon. As if you even have the slightest interest in the NFL.

Vick was better for the Falcons on many levels than anyone they've had this year. You won't see the Falcons winning their division and possibly even making the playoffs in a loooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooong time.

Just cause I don't suck the NFL's collective cock like you do doesn't mean I don't know what's going on and who's who. Vick was garbage and they wouldn't have been winning their division in a looooooooooong time with or without him.

I'm sorry I'm not into nude male statues, but Vick made it to the playoffs while he was there and healthy....twice, one time making it as far as the NFC Championship face off with the Iggles. If the Falcons had losing season...it was due to Vick sustaining injuries.

You want to talk about what had an impact on the game's outcome....chalk it up to that bonehead move...not the refs calls on the field.

Well they didn't help matters any...that is unless you're affiliated with the Patriots. It seems to me that there's just been a way above average amount of very questionable calls being made the last couple weeks or so. Or it just might be that I'm noticing more bad calls than usual.

Damn opinionated subjectiveness. :what:

Da Rafsta

LOL, gotta resort to the cheap shots. Aight...

Hell...not even I liked Vick. I never liked his play cause he, to me, was just a glorified running back with a QB position. Every now and then he'd have some really good passing games but he was what he was. I don't like QBs like that. Off the field...I didn't care for him. I mean, I don't wish any wrong to any players but I don't care to know about their life off the field, while it's on the field....I look to be entertained....end of story.

Only thing I'm saying here is that Petrino wouldn't have taken that job had he known he'd have to work without Vick. Now whether your opinion is that Vick sucks or whatever, that's irrelevant. He's spent a year in the shit hole the Falcons organization is in and he wishes to have none of it. Plus...he's not really NFL material. Let 'em go!

Oh no...I agree, when speaking of all NFL games in general. This year has been an awful year for the officials. I've seen it in all games I've sat and watched this season. Some were more blatant than others but man....but so many have been that obvious and the refs still call it differently, even after examining a replay. WTF???

dionysusolympus

I think the Lolphins last chance for winning will be Baltimore, but the Ravens already went through the roughness of their schedule. And they're pissed off with the one-two punch of New England and the Colts in the same week. and unless one or the other of the New York teams can pull a miracle, then New England will remain undefeated.

if i were on the ravens, i'd definitely off myself. although i would have done it after the pats game.

but then again, the dolphins aren't as shitty as people make them out to be. they aren't good, but they did lose 6 games by 3 points or less. maybe the play calling wasn't the best in those situations. you can't pin all the blame on only the players. not only that, but we were absolutely DECIMATED by injuries this year. you could throw consistency out the door when that happens the way it did to us this season.

anyways, i felt so good about the win yesterday, i played a game against the pats in madden and beat them 27-11 with the lolphins. they managed to score a field goal early in the game thanks to one of those cheap madden fumbles :sarcasm:, and they finally scored a touchdown with :36 seconds left to go in the game...they even went for 2. :uhhh:

Patriots-Giants Game Now on NBC and CBS

By RICHARD SANDOMIR
Published: December 26, 2007

The Patriots-Giants game, which was to be broadcast Saturday night to less than half the country by the NFL Network, will be available to the entire nation under an agreement reached Wednesday by NBC and CBS to simulcast it.

The 15-0 Patriots are attempting to become the first National Football League team since the 1972 Miami Dolphins to go undefeated throughout the entire regular season. Miami went on to win the Super Bowl and finish 17-0 that season.

NBC and CBS will show the NFL Network’s production of the game, with the announcers Bryant Gumbel and Cris Collinsworth, and will not pay an extra rights fee. They will each get to sell 18 30-second commercial units.

Dick Ebersol, the chairman of NBC Universal Sports, said yesterday by telephone that in a conversation in October with Steve Bornstein, the chief executive of the NFL Network, that he would be amenable to a simulcast, and would share it with another broadcast network, if the Patriots’ momentum toward an undefeated season continued. Then, on Monday morning, Bornstein called to ask him if his idea was still viable for NBC.

“As early as last week, I didn’t think it would happen, but then Steve called and I ran it past Jeff, and he said, ‘yes,’ ” said Ebersol, referring to Jeff Zucker, the president of NBC Universal. He added, “I’m intrigued by the historic nature of two over-the-air networks carrying the game. It’ll be fun and will give the NFL Network a chance to exhibit their wares.”

Joe Browne, a spokesman for the league, said: “The two networks independently expressed an interest in carrying the game. They saw the problems we were having with a few of the big cable companies, and so we went back to them earlier this week, and said, ‘What if you both simulcast the NFL Network?’ ”

The NFL Network has found itself with fewer subscribers than it wanted because major cable operators like Time Warner, Cablevision and Charter do not carry it, and Comcast, makes it available only on its digitial sports tier. Comcast is involved in two lawsuits against the league; a judge’s ruling earlier this year allowed it to shift the NFL Network from a broadly-available digital tier to the sports tier that requires an extra fee.

Until Wednesday’s deal, the Patriots-Giants game would have been available to the NFL Network’s 43 million satellite and cable subscribers. Another 10.8 million TV households in the New York-New Jersey and Boston-Manchester, N.H., markets were to get it free on local broadcast stations because they live within the teams’ designated home markets.

The simulcast marks the first time since Super Bowl I in 1967 when NBC and CBS, or any two networks, have simultaneously carried the same N.F.L. game. But in that previous game, separate NBC and CBS crews produced and announced it.

The league’s decision to simulcast the game came amid mounting Congressional pressure to make the potentially historic game more broadly available.

The Connecticut delegation wrote to Commissioner Roger Goodell that the league’s definition of home markets was “unduly narrow,” leaving fans in cities around the state where loyalties are divided between their Giants and Patriots, without the same local broadcast option afforded the New York and Boston markets.

The Rhode Island delegation also protested the league’s market designations that would have deprived Patriots’ fans in Providence and throughout the state of seeing their team go undefeated unless they subscribed to DirecTV or the Dish Network, or got the NFL Netword from their local cable operators.

The league was also warned by Senator Patrick Leahy, Democrat of Vermont and the chairman of the Judiciary Committee, and Arlen Specter, Republican of Pennsylvania and the ranking member of the committee, that it was “exercising its substantial market power to the detriment of consumers.” They cautioned that the strategy might lead to a re-examination by Congress of the league’s ememption from antitrust laws regarding the joint negotiation of its broadcast television rights.

That's what I figured. And I still believe they have a fairly decent shot at winning as long as they take care of business for the first half and attain a comfortable lead going into halftime. It should be a good game either way.

And I'm thinking about buying those NFL Team packages or whatever the hell they're called depending on what provider I'm with next season. I hate not being able to see certain games.

Ravens head coach let go after wrapping 5-11 season

By Jamison Hensley and Mike Preston |Sun reporters1:56 PM EST, December 31, 2007Less than a month after he was assured he would return, Brian Billick has been fired as Ravens head coach, a team source said today.

Billick was informed of owner Steve Bisciotti's decision a day after the Ravens wrapped a dismal 5-11 season.

The Ravens held their team meeting at 1:30 p.m. today and Billick was not at team headquarters.

A high-ranking team official told The Sun earlier this month that Bisciotti gave Billick a vote of confidence because of the Ravens numerous injuries and bad quarterback play.

Billick is the winningest NFL coach in Baltimore history and guided the Ravens to their first Super Bowl title in January 2001.

Billick did not immediately return phone calls to The Sun.

False. He returned us to respectability after over a decade of pathetic teams. He had to completely overhaul this team after the debacle that was Steve Spurrier. Spurrier managed to do 5+ years of damage to our roster in the 2 short years he was in town and Gibbs corrected the problem. The fact that he was able to hold this team together after Taylor's death is a testament as to how great a coach and man Gibbs is.

i knew he would make the decision to leave if they didn't win it all this season. it's obvious that either he's too distracted with the racing or that the game of football has passed him by (look at how he coached that bills game).

I think he realized that at his age it was time to start enjoying life and his family. Watching his PC yesterday I got the feeling that he didn't want to retire but felt that he had to. Keep in mind that he's 67, diabetic, has a grandson battling Leukemia, watched his team get decimated by injuries and he had to go through the death of their best player in the middle of the season. This is the same guy that worked 20 hour days during the season while sleeping on a cot in his office. A no-no for someone that suffers from diabetes. That was the reasoning behind his abrupt retirement the first time around.

As far as the game passing him by......look no further than the run they put together to finish out the season. That has always been a trait of a Gibbs run team. They always finish strong. They play their best football in December and January. The X's and O's may have changed somewhat over the years but he is still the best at getting the most out of his players. Especially those that no one else ever gave a chance.

He gets a pass on the Bills game when you consider what that organization went through leading up to that game. And when you look at how they rebounded it's easy to see just how much of a rock Gibbs was to that team. I don't think there's another coach in the NFL that could have held that team together after Taylor's death. Not only did he hold them together but he took them to the playoffs against improbable odds. And if not for Suisham missing a chip-shot 30 yard FGA we're probably talking about this week's rematch between the Skins and the Cowboys.

It saddens me to know he'll never get that 4th Lombardi but he left this team in position to make a serious run for one in the near future. He restored pride in this organization. That's good enough for me.

I would imagine the TV execs are bummed.

good going, colts. you choking losers.

and as far as the chargers playing at new england, they might as well just skip the game and promote the pats to the super bowl already. it'll save everyone the time and aggravation

actually, i don't think peyton would enjoy playing against his brother...now, eli playing against his older brother's biggest nemesis in the super bowl...THAT seems like the more exciting matchup.

but even though i like the giants waaaaaay better, i hope that it's green bay that makes it to the super bowl. they just seem like they have enough talent and experience to give the pats a challenge. not to mention, that pats/giants regular season game didn't exactly sell me 100% on the giants.

The Giants are only a slightly above average team who happen to be playing decently right now. But up against the Pats, they're simply outclassed.

NY Post Parks Simpson Twin Behind ‘Boys Bench

The NEW YORK POST reports that it hired a woman who resembles Jessica Simpson to sit in the stands at Texas Stadium yesterday in order to distract the Dallas Cowboys during their playoff game against the New York Giants.

NYP: “We sat her in the third row behind the Dallas bench, and she must have made the difference - (Tony) Romo’s final drive was stopped short of the end zone.”

We’re dubious of her effect on the ‘Boys (then again, so THAT’S who Flozell Adams kept looking at!), as the Post only published one less-than-revealing photo of the woman. But, alas, it didn’t take long to find more photos of her strewn across the web.

The woman’s name is Lynsey Nordstrom and the NYP reports she’s a 21-year-old nanny from Bethell, Wash. The NEWARK STAR-LEDGER reports she’s also a professional Jessica Simpson look-alike and “will show up in her Tony Romo jersey for her usual appearance fee: $500 for the first hour, then $250 each hour after that.”

But for Sunday’s game, she told the Star-Ledger last week, “That sounds like fun. Even if my flight is covered, I might do it for free!”

Do what for free again?

quit the hate. The Pats are a bad ass team. Sure....they got busted for a big no-no....but since then they've gone unbeaten. Only team that had them....and they "let 'em off the hook!" was the Ravens. Man....really, I saw that as the Patriots "time to lose" cause they did...it was done, finished. It's just some idiot Raven sub-coach thought it was a good idea to call time out. Since then...the Pats saw they needed to tighten up on the foul ups and have cleaned it up a bit, continuing to win. Had that not happened, they might have lost or possibly could lose on or before the Super Bowl....but I think they've had that bad game already that's "due".

jazz
January 16th, 2008, 04:33 PM
no one knows how much the cheating in previous years has affected them up until this point. one could argue that because they were winning so much these past few years and won all those superbowls, they wouldn't have been able to attract so much of the talent they have now (and for the price they got them at). now they don't even have to cheat to win anymore!

just saying.

i've read a ton of posts on various other sports-related message boards and they could all swear that the refs would never call anything on the pats if it's occurring during a big play that winds up affecting the outcome of the game.

sounds a little paranoid, but that just gives you a little taste of what people will be talking about if/when the pats win it all.

Against the Colts the Pats got called for so many non-penalties, my favorite being the pass interference on Hobbs, when it was the Colts guy who was interfering. I nearly lost it on that call. I could not believe how many asinine calls were made against the Pats that day.

that was before the NFL got the memo...

look the only two problems I have with the Pats is:

Rodney Harrison's HGH/Roid Rage
The second rate refs doing their playoff games...
neither playoff game was called down the middle.. and it's starting to get to the same point the NBA got with Jordan... only call them if they are blatant*

Yeah, it's pretty sad. Fans in general seem pretty surly anymore. We're turning into soccer hooligans :what:

I was about to say, come off it, we've had Galatasaray fans stab Leeds United fans to death for wearing opposition shirts, we've had flares and explosives thrown on pitches and at players, we've had crowd invasions to throw punches at players and referees, we've had one of the world's top referees give up the game because something was thrown from the supporters that cut his eyebrow open and he nearly passed out from blood loss, we've had riots, we've had fans of a former Yugoslavian side try to force an opposition fan to kiss the graves of their legends, and when he refused, gang rape him, and that's only in Europe... there's plenty of brutal stories about the South American fans (and probably a lot more about the Turkish ones than the ones I've mentioned).

When it comes to players, then you have problems in the NFL. When it comes to fans, booing a 14-year-old the worst you can do? You're more like rugby fans than soccer fans - and that's a compliment - respect for anthems, for opposition players and kickers, applause for great skill regardless of which team it's for, and fans not segregated like in football.

as a followup to your short article...

And Saprano should be a good fit, at least with Parcell's philosophy. and God only knows why Keyshawn Johnson was asked about this in ESPN. This topic isn't even in his area code. And he obviously has the skills to assist Dallas and its offense, but Wade Phillips lacked the sternness that Parcell's had (letting Romo and TO go off into their own world during the playoffs).

In my opinion, I think it's a good move, but Fins fans may not feel that way.

we've already proven to ourselves that having a coach that was "too nice" didn't amount to much.

even with the (perceived) veteran leadership on this team, we need an in-your-face type of coach. there are way too many distractions down here in miami.
