Thoughts?
17'' for £930, or 20'' for £1130, hmmm...

I've pondered long and hard about this.
I could get a beast of a pc, and play Doom 3 and Half-Life 2...grrrr. What to do, what to do?

I'd get a PC unless you have a real need for a mac...

Does anyone have a real need for a mac?

PC.
james

I've used a pc all my life. I think I'll get a mac, at the end of the day, I never play games on my pc (apart from Red Alert 2 ) I have my PS2 for games. Fuck it. A Mac would be good for music and would go with my room. Once I move out in 2 years it's all down hill from there. May as well enjoy it now.

Pay no mind. I'm just a mindless drone who follows the PC masses

At the end of the day we're all going to die.
Chances are I'll just stick with my same old pc.

I'd love to have a mac.. along with a PC. But if I was to have either a mac or a PC, I'd go with PC. .. I think I'd rather have a Power Mac than an iMac though.
james
July 17th, 2005, 01:10 PM
Yeah, but who can afford a PowerMac?
Joga
July 17th, 2005, 01:43 PM
My dad just bought one of those.
You're right. If you're a musician, Macs are where it's at. You can get many more music programs on Mac than you can on PC.

Only Free Masons and Shriners use Macs.
It'd be great to have both. But I wouldn't have just Mac. I'd constantly be wishing all the cool games and software were available. Too often the market isn't there or it takes forever for developers to make Mac versions.

i have both... i have a powerbook, but i never use it anymore
initially i was only using mac for school reasons, but i couldn't get the photo loading software to work on it, so i just got this computer to use instead

:that:
now, if you're planning on working with music and graphical design progs, i'd go with the mac. if you're just looking for an all-around computer for gaming, surfing, and watching pr0n, i'd get the pc.

The only thing I'm unsure about is the sound...it just has integrated sound. Surely that isn't good for music?!
I might just get a beast of a new PC with a Creative SoundBlaster Audigy 4 Pro.

I have a Mac and a PC.
The mac is the most reliable piece of hard and software I've ever used. It comes with tons of shit you'd have to buy for a PC, and it almost never ever crashes. It is safe to work with, it DOES have games for it, and the updates that come out, rather than windows, they actually DO something.
If you want the g5, go for it. My dad has one, and its one sleek mother fucker that runs right. Plus, if you're a student, you'll get a student discount.
EDIT: If you're worried about sound quality, don't be. My dad blasts fucking techno right next door to me.
Also, if you a little bit more cash, take a look at the Power-Macs. They're beasts and pack a nice punch along with your fear of intigrated sound can be vanguished. Go to www.apple.com and take a look at some of the audio equipment as well.

I absolutely love how the speakers that sound that come with most macs. Motherboard companies are making damn good onboard sound these days too...

It's alright. My Audigy decided not too long ago that it didn't want to support four speakers, only two, and then a fading third.

wow, that sucks.
tried updating drivers?
did it have a warranty?

July 18th, 2005, 02:27 PM
Nah, I bought it a while back. I don't care too much, because I'll be updating the whole computer once in college with a job.
If I don't get my priorities right, I mean.
james
July 18th, 2005, 02:31 PM
I'm pretty sure I'm not going to get an iMac now. It won't sound as nice as a kick ass PC with a Audigy Pro 4, plus I was in the Apple Center today, and the Macs seemed like toys...

Trust me, its alot of fun.
Check out Automator when you get it, presuming it will have OSX Tiger. My dad has it set up where he clicks an icon on his desk top in the morning, it brings up iTunes, plays his custom play list, turns on the visual mode, and brings up his iCalender for his schedule.

No. I can do more with music on a PC with that amazing soundcard. If I could afford a PowerMac then that would be a different story.
Photoshop is just the same on both platforms anyway, and it'll run faster on this PC I plan to build.
james

- I thought about that, but I still question the overall power of the Mac Mini...I mean would it really be worth it?...personally, I don't think so right now.

a lot of Mac people on the Net are recommending getting the full deal with the eMac or iMac instead...

I have a Mac Mini, and it runs really well. I also have the upgraded processor, 512 RAM (apple RAM, mind you), and the 80 gig hard drive. It's perfect for what I need it for, which is school (have tons of great programs for that, and then some), its small so I'm not freaking about desk room, it serves my music ambitions well (garageband 2.0 with a USB keyboard. It's alot of fun.), allows me to still write, of course. I'm not much of a graphic person, but I have my iPhoto loaded, and I use it quite often. I touch up with other programs, but iPhoto helps with alot of stuff too.
In any case, I enjoy mine. It has more power than you'd think for being so tiny.
