She wrote the dissent for the eminent domain case
The person they put in there will be ten times worse than her.

I wouldn't go that far. Sandra Day O'Connor is why women don't have to go to back alleys for abortions...for now.
I'm officially announcing my campaign for :drphil: to take her place. He might as well. Whoever Dubya puts in there is going to be a dipshit, so why not?

Seriously. Anybody they put on is going to be a drone who votes extremely conservative on every issue. Meaning we're fucked.

Pretty much. I hate this.

If people think we've been going down the shitter, just wait until they see what happens now.

Basically, and that will be a sad, sad day.

Yes. Very much so. So I need to get rich quick, and buy an island somewhere far away from here, and it will be inhabited only by members of this messageboard, and our close friends and family members.
I will allow Ryan and Jas to be there, too, but all Vegemite consumption will have to be done behind closed doors.

Damn good idea. We function much better than the government could dream of functioning.

Alright. I'll work on it. You start stockpiling canned goods, and bottled water.

I'll get right on it.
What happened to the contraceptives?
Joga

Well, it seemed counterproductive to the goal of procreation that will go on on this island, especially with the bunch we have...and besides, once our new supreme court justice is installed, we most likely won't be able to get contraceptives anymore anyway.

Excellent point. We'll be saying "Damn the Supreme Court to hell" a whole lot in the coming years.

Well. she had nothing to do with Roe vs. Wade if that's you're refering to here.
But, as long as Bush puts in a moderate (which he won't) then we should all be fine. Rehnquist retiring would actually be a good thing too.

He won't. It will be two extremely conservative people (after Rehnquist dies/retires).

Rehnquist was pretty out there at times himself though. He was one of the only two dissenting votes in the Roe vs. Wade case. It would be very hard to find someone as far the right as he is, so almost anyone would be a step in the right direction (the right direction being "the middle" if such a thing exists).

Did I say that?
My statement is fact. She was the swing vote on many abortion cases that have gone through the Supreme Court. Without her vote, conservatives would have used those cases to try to overturn Roe vs. Wade.

Without her vote, conservatives would have used those cases to try to overturn Roe vs. Wade.It was implied (at least i took it that way, considering the amount of cases the supreme court has heard regarding abortions while she was in the court: 2, one of which she ruled against women's rights to abortion, sort of, in the Webster v. Reproductive health services, though that was about state funding for places like planned parenthood). If you meant she helped decide which cases concerning abortion would NOT be brought before the court, then you'd be right, but her imapct regarding abortion is almost non-existent.

ah, whatever the fuck. the point is that this old dying fossil is getting her maggot infested ass out of office before the shit hits the fan and both parties are fighting like little bitches to put someone who votes their way.
and yes, before you ask, that was the cliff notes version. :what:

:that:
i stand firm that there is no member of the supreme court that truley upholds the constutution, which i believe is their supposed goal. They all need to go, Bush shouldn't be able to appoint shit... we should get to vote on these positions, they are way too important to leave up to this political jockeying :shame:
