Oden reportedly will give Ohio State oral commitment
INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Greg Oden, a 7-foot junior who was named USA TODAY's All-USA player of the year, reportedly will make an oral commitment to play college basketball at Ohio State.
Oden is ranked the No. 1 recruit in the country by www.PrepStars.com.
Both he and teammate Mike Conley are expected to sign with the Buckeyes, The Indianapolis Star reported Friday, citing an unidentified source close to Oden.
Telephone messages seeking comment were left by The Associated Press for Lawrence North coach Jack Keefer and athletic director Grant Nesbit. Oden's mother, Zoe Oden, told the Star that no official decision had been made.
Oden earlier narrowed his college choices to Ohio State, Indiana, Wake Forest and Michigan State. He was named national high school player of the year by Gatorade and Parade magazine and had been considered a possible No. 1 pick in the 2006 draft until an NBA rule change this week requiring players to be at least one year out of high school to be drafted.
Oden averaged 20 points, 9.6 rebounds and 3.7 blocked shots a game last season has led Lawrence North to two straight Indiana high school Class 4A championships. Conley, a point guard, averaged 10.7 points and five assists.
