this place really hasn't got enough serious topics.

what do you think happens when you die? do you believe in the whole heaven/hell thing? or do you just stop existing? or do you have several lives? or something else?

Julia,

The doctors words echo in my mind. "She might not wake up."

Maybe I should start from the beginning.

I've always admired you. Did you know that? Maybe I even envied you. When you walked in the room, all eyes were on you. Your radiance shown through to all, and seemingly made even the saddest faces smile. There was no one who would deny your friendship. Everyone wanted to know you. Everyone wanted to be you. Including me.

Finally, you did befriend me. We became so close, and it was wonderful. I had never had a friend such as you. You were ideal. And as we came to a certain point in our friendship, I realized that even you had your weaknesses. It was wonderful to find out that someone as perfect as yourself had her own problems. But yours were limited, even though you continuously denied your perfection. You were always so modest. I knew, truly, that life was going very smoothly for you. Everyone knew your future was bright.

And then.

Then one day, you told me you had gotten into a fight with your parents. A treacherous one, you said. I tried to console you over the phone, but it wasn't working. I asked you to come over. You agreed.

You never did reach my house.

I got the phone call at 8:19 that night, I still remember that cursed time. It was from your parents. Your mother, actually. She was hysterical. "Julia's been in a car accident, a horrible one!" she moaned. My parents rushed me to the hospital. I sat in the ghoulish waiting room there for what seemed like an eternity. Your parents were also there, waiting in this room, which seemed like it was closing in on all of us. How agonizing it was.

Finally, a doctor came in.

"She might not wake up." That was the last thing I remember hearing that night. I woke up to tear-stained sheets the next morning. My parents explained to me that you were in a coma. And they didn't know if you would wake up.

Why you? Why such a beautiful, pure person? Why not me, who is indefinitely more suited for such a tragic occurrence? It makes no sense to me, and I fear it never will.

Please wake, Julia. I promise I'll sit by your side until you do. I'll keep this letter in a closed envelope, and when you awake from your rigid sleep, I'll read you this letter.

Until then, I wait.

this place really hasn't got enough serious topics.

what do you think happens when you die?
death
1. The cessation of all vital phenomena without capability of resuscitation, either in animals or plants.

Local death is going on at times and in all parts of the living body, in which individual cells and elements are being cast off and replaced by new; a process essential to life. General death is of two kinds; death of the body as a whole (somatic or systemic death), and death of the tissues. By the former is implied the absolute cessation of the functions of the brain, the circulatory and the respiratory organs; by the latter the entire disappearance of the vital actions of the ultimate structural constituents of the body. When death takes place, the body as a whole dies first, the death of the tissues sometimes not occurring until after a considerable interval.

Death is much used adjectively and as the first part of a compound, meaning, in general, of or pertaining to death, causing or presaging death; as, deathbed or death bed; deathblow or death blow, etc. Black death. Civil death, the separation of a man from civil society, or the debarring him from the enjoyment of civil rights, as by banishment, attainder, abjuration of the realm, entering a monastery, etc. Death adder.

(Science: zoology) A kind of viper found in South Africa (Acanthophis tortor); so called from the virulence of its venom. b5a A venomous Australian snake of the family Elapidae, of several species, as the Hoplocephalus superbus and Acanthopis antarctica.

Death applies to the termination of every form of existence, both animal and vegetable; the other words only to the human race. Decease is the term used in law for the removal of a human being out of life in the ordinary course of nature. Demise was formerly confined to decease of princes, but is now sometimes used of distinguished men in general; as, the demise of Mr. Pitt. Departure and release are peculiarly terms of Christian affection and hope. A violent death is not usually called a decease. Departure implies a friendly taking leave of life. Release implies a deliverance from a life of suffering or sorrow.

 The bible shares the same view IMO, although many religions known as Christian say the departed goes to heaven. It's said that we humans posess a soul inside us but I've read where the bible says we ARE a living soul, not that we HAVE one or were GIVEN one.

Genesis 2:7 - Yahweh God formed man from the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.

1 Corinthians 15:45 - So also it is written, "The first man, Adam, became a living soul." The last Adam became a life-giving spirit.

If we are a soul and also dust, then we die and thus our soul dies.

Genesis 3:19 - By the sweat of your face will you eat bread until you return to the ground, for out of it you were taken. For you are dust, and to dust you shall return.

Psalms 146:4 - 146:4: His spirit departs, and he returns to the earth. In that very day, his thoughts perish.

Ecclisiastes 3:19-20: 3:19: For that which happens to the sons of men happens to animals. Even one thing happens to them. As the one dies, so the other dies. Yes, they have all one breath; and man has no advantage over the animals: for all is vanity. 20: All go to one place. All are from the dust, and all turn to dust again.

Ecclesiastes 9:5, 10: 9:5: For the living know that they will die, but the dead don't know anything, neither do they have any more a reward; for the memory of them is forgotten.

9:10: Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with your might; for there is no work, nor device, nor knowledge, nor wisdom, in Sheol, where you are going.
