I have like 3 gigs of space left on my HD, and need to add more to keep downloading music.

Anyone have any sugestions with either adding another drive or buying an external one?

I recommend an external HDD. You could even use an iPod or Sony net walkman to store files, as well as play music.

As long as you have firewire or usb 2.0, an external drive is definetly the way to go.

I could just make sure all my music is on my iPod, and delete it from the computer. That would be a pain in the ass though because I listen to music a ton.

Yeah I know... but yeah you should try and get maybe a 200gb ext. HDD. They aren't very expensive and are more useful than internal ones. Transferring files onto it shouldn't be too much of a problem, as USB2 is pretty fast.

I think you could play mp3's off the ext. HDD while using your pc too, and they are usually very quiet.

...and an iPod. (though I personally would prefer one of those sony 20gb net walkmans...)

I'll check it out. I just checked one folder that has some of my music in it, and 6 seasons of The Wonder Years. It's 24 gigs. -_-

Thanks a bunch. Now I just gotta get cash for a big ass external hd.

just get an external drive and hook it up via Firewire...you'll do just fine...

Come on people, external drives are much more expensive than internal ones. Unless you crave a somewhat portable expensive external drive, get an internal one. You can get a 250gb internal drive for ~ $100 whereas a 250gb external goes for at least ~ $250, probably more. Internal drives operate much faster than externals using USB 2.0 or Firewire (although they are probably fast enough for what you need) If you need an external harddrive, purchase an internal drive, then buy a converting case (converts internal drives to external) for 65 bucks, youll save a hundred or more and it will be external.

- I also recommend an external harddrive...here are some options:

If you have a DVD burner, back up your music to a DVD, then remove it from the HD. If you use your iPod as your sole home for your music files you are going to be PISSED if something happens to it.

Or buy another HD! I would not recommend am external USB... You can take a nap while it moves files from point to point. Firewire or internal only (IMO).

I'm gonna open up the computer and see if there is a slot to install another internal drive. If there is then I'll just get one of those.

If not, then I'll have to get some type of external one.

If you don't have a reason for an external HD I'd just get a second internal HD. The HD will be slowed down by the USB connection (friewire is better if you have a firewire port). .. but the main reason.. external HD's are much more expensive. So if you have no need to carry around the HD, then don't worry about an external one.

I got my mom an external HD because she does a lot of work at home and a lot of work in her office, and she wanted to save stuff to the same place.. so an external HD was perfect for her so she could carry her documents around with her. It's annoying to carry around if you don't buy an extra power cable thing.. I got her an extra one, but I think it was insanely priced (like $30.00 I think).

For Internal hd's Segate is supposed to be the best. I've never had any problems w/ Western Digital (usually you can get them for a good price), but some people claim they are no good. Maxtor I've had plenty of problems with.

Oh, if you do decide to get an external drive.. it might be cheaper to but an external drive enclosure and the drive seperatly. It was cheaper when I got one for my mom, but I've seen some cheap ones lately.. so maybe not now.
