I have NO clue what I did to my Power settings in my Control Panel, but it's jacked with my screensaver settings--SS will work for about 10-15 minutes then stops. And, of course, the XP Help files are for shit on this.
This is what my settings look like right now.

Any ideas on what they should look like? Any help (however easy the solution might be) would be muchly appreciated.

Okay, I have ANOTHER comp geek question hurr.
Is there a way I can get a GOOD rip on a copyright-protected CD? I use Exact Audio Copy for my rips. Is there some kind of "cheat" I can use to accomplish a clean rip?

what is the problem?....eac doesnt care about copy protection......maybe try ripping wav to hard drive then to mp3

Copy Protection can fuck up the rippability of a cd in windows either by installing hidden software when inserted (to those individuals who have autorun on, i assume most of you do), which in turn causes bad distortions of various types when trying to rip. The copy protection can also fuck up a rip at a hardware level (meaning that the cd drive itself fucks up due to the copy protection).
A couple ways around this are to use EAC's Burst mode instead of Secure mode. If that doesnt work, try the same using a different CD drive.

if the cd has that physical copyright protecting thing around the edges, take a black marker and colour over it
i'm not too sure how many cds have this because shortly after it came out the people figured out how to bypass it with a sharpie
if that's not the problem then do what everyone else says :shurg:
bdf
April 28th, 2005, 05:21 AM
Well....I tried EAC Burst mode and succeeded in putting a HELLA fucking scratch on the copy-protected CD I was trying to rip. Bla. Oh, and Burst mode didn't work either. Shitfuck.
Looks like I'm gonna have to try the Sharpie trick.

Well, not usually, no. The only other time it's happened was with one of my four copies of Degradation Trip. Oooo......the common theme here MIGHT be the data track.
The CD in question is Velvet Revolver's Contraband.

yeah, that cd is one that installs hidden software on your system so you cannot make a good rip, theres programs that will remove the software on the internet, but i dont have time to look them up now (i think the copy protection on it is called MediaMax).
One other option that may work is in EAC, goto the Action > TOC Alterations > Retrieve Native TOC, then try to rip some tracks and see if they come out good.

Tards.....I hate that they do that shit. Plus, the CD is so fucked up now that I'm just gonna fork over the cash for a new one later on today. Gotta love consumerism. :plain:

I finally got my Cyberlink Power DVD software running good, but I have to drop my screen resolution from 1024 X 768 to 800 X 600 to get it to run decently without the video being jerky (for lack of a better technical phrase). Is there anything that I can do to the configurations or anything out there that I can download to get the video to run without video issues if I don't drop my screen res?

Latest drivers...........what video card / and Processor do you have?
Alos when you insert your cd, hold down the shift key for about 15 seconds

May 21st, 2005, 12:55 PM
I just downloaded DirectX 9 early Tuesday morning. Processor is an AMD Athlon XP 1600+. Video card? Uhhh....I feel like a total retard, how would I go about finding out what I have? Device Manager?
I figured I'd also throw in that I'm only having issues with my DVD-ROM. My CD-ROM works great. Here's some more info that you might need though--my hard drive crashed on me last April, and I think that when I took it in to get replaced my SoundBlaster card disappeared (it could have been removed due to the faulty hard drive, but I should have realized the problem sooner) and I now have a VIA97 sound card I think. :sigh:
I mean, it's not that big of a deal really....I just don't like dropping my screen res just to watch a DVD.

No no.....both drives WORK. I'm just trying to see if there's something that I can do about my DVD drive and/or settings so that I don't have to go to 800 X 600 just to watch a DVD.

BDF, if I were you I would try this:
1. Open your bedroom window
2. Unplug your computer
3. Pick up your tower
4. Throw it out the window
5. Start all over again

Since I really don't know what I'm looking for on my video card.....hope this helps a little.
Video codecs: (standard system devices) <--according to Device Manager
Legacy video capture devices: (standard system devices) <---again according to Device Manager
Looks like I might have on-board video, like you fellas were saying. I won't be too terribly upset if there isn't a fix for this. Like I posted earlier, I finally have things working good, I was just wondering if I could easily tweak it some.
