i actually just bought the old 1980s Transformers movie on dvd a few weeks ago. i remember Hot Rod being more of a badass when i saw it as a child.

Giant f'ing robots are coming sooner than expected.

June 1, 2007 - Transformers, the highly-anticipated Michael Bay adaptation of the '80s comic/toy line/cartoon, is coming to theaters one day sooner than expected!

Previously scheduled to drop nationwide on July 4, the film is now slated to open on Tuesday, July 3rd. IGN spoke with a rep at Paramount Pictures this morning who confirmed the forward shift.

Bay had personally campaigned for the move, posting an appeal to fans on his blog urging them to voice their support for a July 3 release.

In a post from May 18 he wrote, "The 3rd everyone is off from work. I say 'what the f***,' play the movie - give 'em giant f****** robots early!"

Meanwhile, unconfirmed reports are surfacing online that the studio has given preliminary approval to two Transformers sequels. It's just a rumor, of course, and we imagine there won't be anything solid to report on sequels until after the film cleans up at the box office.
