I'm thinking the way to get people to not shoot each other as much... is to not give more people guns. I do see their point, but no.
EDIT: pasting the article so I don't get bitched at.
PHOENIX - All options should be considered to prevent rampages like the Minnesota school shooting that took 10 lives — including making guns available to teachers, a top National Rifle Association leader said Friday.
"I'm not saying that that means every teacher should have a gun or not, but what I am saying is we need to look at all the options at what will truly protect the students," the NRA's first vice president, Sandra S. Froman, told The Associated Press.
Gun-control restrictions would not have prevented Jeff Weise, 16, from killing nine people and himself Monday at Red Lake High School near Bemidji, Minn., said Froman, an attorney expected next month to be elected president of the NRA, which claims 4 million members.
The presence of an unarmed guard at the school failed to stop the siege, she noted.
"No gun law, no policy that you could implement now or that was already implemented, I think, could possibly prevent someone so intent on destruction," she said. "I think everything's on the table as far as looking at what we need to do to make our schools safe for our students."
Froman said if it is the responsibility of teachers to protect students in a school, "then we as a society, we as a community have to provide a way for the teachers to do that."
Froman cited the 1997 school shooting incident in Pearl, Miss., where a teacher retrieved a gun from his car when a student opened fire, then held the student at bay until police arrived.
A law prohibiting guns in schools "is not going to stop someone who has evil in their heart and who has the capacity to commit those crimes from doing them," Froman said.

seems like even if the teachers had guns, the teacher would be very hesitant to shoot a student. but i guess maybe not if he's already killed some people.

What incentive is there to be a teacher these days? The pay sucks. And you have to deal with whiney, snot nosed little shits who don't listen, or think they are above the school system.

and parents that are ready to sue at the drop of a hat
as for pilots with guns
i dont think thats a very good idea
although planes can pretty much fly themselves these days, theres two pilots there for a reason(and even if they arent, who wants to see their PILOTS getting into a fight, say you see him lose...who's gonna fly the plane?).
air stewards/hosts on the other hand might be more reasonable

Teachers in my state have good retirement and good benefits... that's about it i think.
oh wait, also dont forget they get a ton of off days.. where i live they get fall break, spring break, and about 3 months during the summer off... and of course 2 weeks at Christmas time.. and other holidays throughout the year.

I'm in favor of pilots being armed. Alot of commercial pilots are former Air Force and Naval pilots and aren't exactly novices at using a firearm. I'd love to see us take commercial flight as seriously as they do in Israel.....deadbolts on the pilot's cabin, armed pilots and armed air marshalls.

i think the cockpit should be sealed off completely from the rest of the airplane. the cockpit should contain its very own bathroom facility(s), food station, and enough room to stretch and walk around.
...and the wall seperating the cockpit from the rest of the plane should be made out of the strongest material possible.

I agree. That would easily stop shit like 9/11 from happening.

In all seriousness... I mentioned somewhere else that my high school principal committed suicide like two days after the graduation of my class... He also left a list of people he blamed, including students.
Now this man feels strongly enough to off himself... I am thinking a gun would have been a REALLY bad thing...
