i think they are stuck with the same - i guess "signature" RATM sound since the 90's. Not much of a progression IMO, but still good ol' kickass songs.

Hmmm, maybe I need to hear a better version of the song, but so far I'm not impressed. It sounded a lot like U2. Not that I don't like U2, but there wasn't enough Morello in this one for me. Cornell's voice sounded good, though.

I won't make a thread on this, but this is a good place to share...
My younger brother has just started to get into RATM. A few days ago, after blaring some tracks on the computer, he turns to me and says "Rage kicks ass." I look at him and say "You mean they "kicked" ass."
"What do you mean?"
"You know they broke up right?"
"Oh...."
"You didn't know? So you don't know what they're doing now?"
"No"
"Well the musicians are playing behind Chris Cornell for Audioslave"
"Audioslave? *thinks for a few seconds* oh... oh... shit... You just ruined my day."

I agree 100%. I love Chris Cornell, Tom Morello, Brad Wilk, and Tim Cummingford, and I like their music.
I also admit their first attempt could have used greater variation, but we'll see. I still like it and I still think it was good.
But just HOW do I hear the new song? I went to their web site and I saw nothing

i hate audioslave.
It could be worse. Audioslave isn't my cup O tea so to speak, but considering Soundgarden was fading out and RAGE was past it's prime things had to go somewhere.
I still think Chris is one of rock's best singer's though.

i disagree.Chris isn't that good. He is good but not that good. first off, i think Rage breaking up was a bad thing and for the record i tried listeed to audioslave but it just sucked. I never liked Soundgarde either. The Rage band should have found a new singer besides Chris. His voice is pure shit to my ears.

Chris is country music's answer to Maynard. Take that however you want. ;)
Anyways, I disagree with you about Rage. I will admit, Rage is the only good rap/rock band to come from the ninties and they are IMO underrated, however, after the release of BoLA, Rage had nowhere to go. They were starting to recycle musically and lyrically (though you could argue they were rehasing lyrically before hand). BoLA was a great record and all, but they would have ended up flailing in the end. It's best that they went out on top of their game. Imagine if Nirvana had lasted one more album. People wouldn't have given a shit about Cobain.
Long story short, yeah, Rage should've gotten a different singer, but it's all part of the music cycle.

i disagree. You can't really compare. Rage could always come back where as Kurt can't. Not a fair judgement. Audioslave sounds just like RATM but with a shitter singer with shitter lyrics. As for the maynard comment. I resint that

I will admit, Rage is the only good rap/rock band to come from the ninties and they are IMO underrated, however, after the release of BoLA, Rage had nowhere to go.
I could argue that Warsawpack were just as good as RATM, but nobody has heard of them so no one will care.
Also they formed in 2000, so your statement about "the only good rap/rock band from the 90's" stands uncontested.
Anyways, I gave Audioslave a shot, I was a bit disappointed. I'll give the single a listen to at some point, but from what I'm hearing from everyone here...it's not gonna change my opinion.

Okay, I have finally heard and been able to listen to this song.
:crying:
I am so disappointed... and oh it pains me... I have never really disliked anything Chris Cornell has done until now...
While I find the music a bit soft, it is still fine, so my issue is with only the lyrics. I like the tonal quality of the vocals, but the structure and content are pure pop rock. They follow a standard formula and show no expirimentation, or sense of adventure. And the subject matter is so borderline, if not fully, inspirational and cheesey, that I am left without words to describe my disappointment...
Oh what a sad week for me... :crying: Chris Cornell has finally completely let me down and disappointed me... :frown:
I feel I have been hollowed out from the inside... i'm gonna have no soul left soon if this keeps up... :confused3

Well, if we believe (and I´m not saying we should) what Morello has said in some latest interviews, and some of the new material they´ve been playing on the recently started tour, the rest of the album is more hard rocking that "Be Yourself".
