jazz

ok, only list songs that have actually given you the chills at one point...i'll list a few:

aic-junkhead

there's just a certain chill i get when i hear layne yell 'yeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah,' especially now since he died. also, the guitar solo part. very uplifting.

tool-the grudge

the part in the beginning of the song right after the lyric 'unable to forgive your scarlet lettermen.'

the extremely long yell towards the end...

the 'let go' sequence...

the mini-drum solo at the end.

radiohead-in limbo

the part at the end when the music starts to slow down. it almost sounds like the music's melting.

radiohead-exit music (for a film)

thom's voice here is incredible.

list yours...

Radiohead- How To Disappear Completely
where it's just Thom and the strings and the strings get all disordered but Thom hold the note through it. almost brings me to tears.

APC- vanishing
the whole song

tool- the grudge
wear the grudge like a crown (BANG)

also- Disposition
the whole song

Taking Back Sunday- New American Classic
the first verse reminds me of my break up almost word for word.

Grateful Dead - Jack Straw

The way Jerry sings this one verse just blows my mind.

Leaving Texas
Fourth day of July
Sun so hot, clouds so low
The eagles filled the sky

Also.....
Led Zep - Battle of Evermore

Pretty much all of the song, but really when he lets off with that off kilter sounding OHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh hhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.......BRING IT BACK BRING IT BACK

Pink Floyd - Another Brick In the Wall: Part I, Empty Spaces, Goodbye Cruel World, Is There Anybody Out There all give me the chills.

Also, from The Final Cut:

The transition from One of the Few into The Hero's Return nearly made me piss myself the first time I heard it. Also, to hear/feel the emotion in Roger Waters' voice in those two songs can't help but give you the chills.

Well, he's pretty high up there, guy from TMV reminds me of that a bit...

Rush has ALOT of music, it depends on what you like. Fly By Night is one of my favourites (1975)
also 2112 of course, A Farewell to Kings is really good... Moving Pictures, or Permanent Waves...
Grace Under Pressure...
K those are the Rush albums I can think of for now that I like the best... and the first one Rush... :homer:

Lateralus - the whole song but especially everything after "still be a human"
The Patient - whole song but i think everyone who listens to the song often enough will know which bits are more chill worthy..

all of disposition/ reflection / triad but the most amazing bit is in reflection where adam jones goes in strong with the guitar on the main melody about 2/3 through...i almost never notice when it is starting. it takes a while for me to realise why i feel more chilled than the rest of the song, then i realise the guitar is there.

Pushit - the bits are obvious to anyone who knows the song.
Pushit live - where he stops talking and the guitar starts quitetly but clearly and he starts to sing...and the rest of the obvious bits.

The noose - "With your halo slipping down"

Vanishing - the whole song

The Package - where it hits in hard

the hollow "screaming feeeeeeed meeeeeee"

orestes for reasons already listed

I will edit more in later

EDIT:
Metallica fade to black solo, one solo, to live is to die. and others.

Live : dolphins cry, TBD and Pillar of Davidson

Soundgarden : Blow up the outside "I;ve given everything i can.."

NIN : Just like you imagined, Leaving Hope, the Mark Has been made, the big come down(where it goes all cool before it ends) And all that could have been.

There are bits of Pink floyd songs that give me chills

I was thinking of Eulogy, the first time I heard it, when Maynard sings:
"Would you die for me,
don't you fucking lie..."

how about when that kickass riff comes in and maynard sings: 'well then, so long!'

When Maynard sang the verse "You claimed all this time...." over the top of Danny's simple solo polyrythm beats. I creamed myself the first few times i heard it.

the little moan before the male vocals at the end of "Gloomy Sunday" by Billie Holiday. Scary. Only thing in the song that makes me understand the suicide connection. And the bit where the piano drone suddenly switches, after about 8 minutes, to a minor chord on the 3rd track on the last Et Sans record.

Pink Floyd's The Great Gig In The Sky--the last vocal part at the end when everything calms back down. Holy fuck.....
Jerry Cantrell's Feel The Void--the way he holds the last note in the line "I have no home". Sad, but great song.
Jerry Cantrell's 31/32--the whole song. That, and the song really makes me bawl when I'm feeling down.
Alice In Chains's Would?--Layne's end vocals, starting with "Am I wrong, have I run to far to get home..." I just got chills TYPING it. :what:
Alice In Chains's Frogs--again, Layne's end vocals, starting with "7AM......on a Tuesday, in August...." and Jerry's ending acoustic riff. Fucking beautiful.
Tool's The Patient--the whole thing. "Is this a test? It has to be...." Sheer fucking poetry.
Stravinsky's The Firebird--the end movement. Beautiful.
Gershwin's Rhapsody In Blue--the quiet movement. Brings me to tears every time.
Bach's Toccata and Fugue (orchestral version from Fantasia)--the ending section. Holy Christ.....the way it builds and winds back down. Simply gorgeous.
Stevie Ray Vaughan's Little Wing--the whole thing, especially hearing his amp buzzing after the first long solo section. That man could play the guitar.......

Okay....I think I'm done for now. But isn't it cool that the GOOD music gives you chills? I've always thought that was so awesome...

OK, so this gives me chills for very different reasons, but most of "Very Friendly" by Throbbing Gristle... especially the last four minutes when Genesis is just repeating "there's been a m-m-m-m-m-m-m-m-murder" over these spacey sounds, after 13 minutes of pure aural torture under the sounds of squealing guitars, industrial and a rather too-much-detail account of the crimes of the Moors Murderers...

The ending of Silverchair's Steam Will Rise.

The endings to Björk's Undo and Unison, with the chorale and then the harps.

The Passing Of The Elves.

Sigur Rós' Untitled #8 (Popplagið), especially the second half.

Opeth's Blackwater Park, starting at 5:16, and then comes Mikael's growls at 5:30 and everything after that...
Same thing with Master's Apprentices, his growl plunges in at 7:46, and then that bloodcurdling scream coming at 8:35 and everything after that.

Isis - So Did We. Listening to that song loud in my car makes me feel like I'm going to explode, or something.

Iron & Wine - Upward Over the Mountain. One of the few songs that can almost bring me to tears. Personal reasons...

Xiu Xiu - 20,000 Deaths for Eidelyn Gonzales, 20,000 Deaths For Jamie Peterson (Live)

Actually, quite a few Xiu Xiu songs give me chills. The singer just sounds so paranoid and vulnerable.

For Xiu Xiu, the most chilling moment is the "the twenty hundred private loops... making... up my... *SCREAM* IAN CURTIS! I CAN'T BELIEVE I SAID IT! WISHLIIIIIIIIIIIIIIST!!!"...

And the moment the vocals come in on "Avalanche" by Leonard Cohen.

And when Aidan Moffat says "I could've hugged you to death... last night" in his thick scottish drawl on "I Would've Liked Me A Lot Last Night".

The scream that brings everything back in about 15 seconds from the end of "Passing Complexion" by Big Black, too.

Portishead's Over gives me major chills at the end part, probably 98% of the time I listen to it.

Beth Gibbons' Show usually does at the choruses, cause they are so goddamn depressing, as does Mysteries, and parts of Funny Time of Year.

Alice in Chains' Frogs sometimes, as well, its very haunting.
