Firefox.... user profiles?

for no appearant reason firefox asked me to choose a user profile

... so i examined the list and choose the only choice available 'default'

and it told me that 'default' was in use....


so it says to make a new one... at this point i have no idea whats going on so i click make new profile and name it somethingorother

all of my bookmarks and settings are lost.... somewhere in my computer

how do i switch back to my old user profile?? there's nothing in the options menu about it, and i wasn't even aware it existed before today

how do i get them back?
they are somewhere hidden deep within my computer
yet i have absolutly no idea what i'm looking for

it's because something messed up and firefox process was already running, therefore it wanted you to make a new profile so you dont use 2 at once. next time that comes up just ctrl + alt + delete, go to processes and end task on "firefox.exe"

if you already messed up your bookmarks and stuff, windows system restore will bring them back.

C:\Documents and Settings\username\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles

replace username w/ whatever your username is

the "default.a33" folder is the default one. the other ones are other profiles you have made
you can open the folder and open up bookmarks.html to see which profile you want to use
just rename that profile to "default.a33" and you can delete the others if you dont want to keep them

but like i said, system restore would work too
