So I went and saw Helmet and Chevelle last night at a small club in Baltimore. All I can say is...........Wow. :wookie: Helmet is still one of the best live acts I've ever seen. They are still so crisp, even with 2 new members. And incredibly loud I might add. They generate such a huge sound, and are incredibly heavy live. :bang:

How was Chevelle? I used to want to go see them really bad when I was in like 7th (or maybe it was 8th) grade when Point #1 first came out. I'd still like to see them if it was cheap enough . IMO that CD is a lot better than their 2nd one.. which I didn't care for too much. I never listened to the 3rd one.

my ears rang for 2 days after that show. so loud, and such a small venue (not to meantion around 5 hours long).

Here's the thing. People that don't know music may see somewhat of a resemblance to Tool. But in reality, Helmet is Chevelle's biggest influence. Always has been. Helmet reuniting and signing on to tour with Chevelle was along the same lines as King Crimson touring with Tool. It was Chevelle's/Tool's way of saying "thank you for being an inspiration to us". Now, some of their influences definitely come from Tool, but not to the extent that Helmet does, as their style is much more militant in the mold of Helmet.

It's kind of funny actually. I'm a much bigger fan of Point #1 than I am of their last two CD's because of how raw and diverse the CD was, BUT seeing them live back then, they weren't very good. Being a 3 man band, they had a very hard time reproducing their sound as it comes off much larger on CD than in concert. But, after seeing them last night, things have definitely changed for them. They are a much better live band than they used to be, and Peter Loeffler is a much better vocalist on stage than he was back then. Alot of their songs used to be scaled back vocally as well. He seemed pretty timid in trying to shred his vocals the way he does on an album back then, but has gotten alot better at being a performer. If you're a fan of Chevelle, I'm sure you'll love seeing them. If you're one of those tweeners that's judging them because they are a "fake" Tool, try to see them for what they really are.........a band heavily influenced by Helmet that happens to have a singer that's capable of sounding something like Maynard. But give them a chance with an open mind, and I'm sure you'll be pleasantly surprised.
